Bolting Along The Hedge

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what methods people use to stop rabbits bolting along the hedge. There is often a couple of holes I can't net because of the hedge and it always seems that the rabbits bolt out of these and runs along the hedge before the dogs can get to them. Thanks

Double pegged large purse nets also work a treat if you strategically place them along the runs using a few twigs to hold them up if necessary.

Sometimes placing a few along a run also works when there's a few bunnies as you catch one and by the time you've got it there could have been another bolt or 2... These are some of my favorite tricks for hedges and I get more pleasure from a success from this than i do a backnetter. lol.

How to ferret hedgerows, is one of the more popular threads,, as they are all different, some have a fence at the back, some a fence through the middle, there's a lot of different methods when dealing with hedgerows, but all the ferreting dvds or on Youtube, seem to be about ferreting moorland, where its a case of a dog marking, and the purse nets being put on, rabbit bolting, maybe time someone like Simon Whitehead put up a dvd of all methods when dealing with hedges.

There are hedges and there are HEDGES.

All differnt, but down here in the south west many are thick as hell and on top of a bank. I genuinely dont bother with some places as there are better methods to whack the varmints  After all rabbits will often run the hedge rather than break out into a open field.

However I dont think you can beat either a low small stop net or a large double pegged pursenet set on a run. Short of that you can block it off, but that doesnt always lead to rabbits in the bag eh

As you say there are hedges, then there are proper hedges.
