Matt 160
Ruddy brill Matt! Keep looking at these demis full of cider and thinking "no"! Don't bottle yet, like Matt said , too early. Thanks for the kind words. I haven't done any filming for a while; I should probably have done some when I was apple pressing.... I'll try and get some pics of my cider over Christmas. MR TEA POT 1,287
Why don't you shoot it with air rifle/pistol more humane and quicker then bashing it on the head twice Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
Why don't you shoot it with air rifle/pistol more humane and quicker then bashing it on the head twice Thats just the Irish in Matt coming out... To be sure, to be sure. TC Quote Link to post
EDDIE B 3,168
Why don't you shoot it with air rifle/pistol more humane and quicker then bashing it on the head twice Even despatching with the air rifle, you need a second pellet the odd time! Quote Link to post
MR TEA POT 1,287
Not if you get it right the first time ? Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
Not if you get it right the first time Very true. But who gets it right first time every time? The only person I can think of is a liar. TC 1 Quote Link to post

MR TEA POT 1,287
More chance getting it right then putting in a sack and hitting with stick lol Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
Whatever method you choose to utilise..it must be as humane as possible... I generally trap em,.sack em,..then dislocate their neck vertebrae.... Edited December 10, 2014 by Phil Lloyd 3 Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
More chance getting it right then putting in a sack and hitting with stick lol I am not so sure about that, when in a trap they are agitated and very mobile. Once in a sack they are restricted and less mobile. So which one is the easiest to kill? The agitated mobile one or the subdued restricted one? TC 1 Quote Link to post
Matt 160
You've got to love THL.... there is always someone waiting in the wings to criticise... That 'stick' I use is actually a piece of steel bar; in fact, it's the same one I was issued when I worked as a professional trapper for MAFF. When you've had your dispatch work audited and monitored by a Parliamentary Select Committee, rather than a hobbyist on an internet forum, you learn to ignore pointless and groundless criticism. I've dispatched lots of things in my time, using various methods including CO2, injectable barbiturate, and firearms, you get the confidence to choose the most appropriate method for the species and the circumstances. In the case of Grey Squirrels, the same as MAFF (now DEFRA), AHVLA, NE and the Forestry Commission, I choose not to introduce the hazard of a firearm into the equation, and use the sack and priest method. Post dispatch (as you can see in the film) I always check for the vital signs of life, and if there is any doubt, offer up a second blow. In fact, in the case shown in the film, I actually did it to emphasise the point, and it's importance I'm still chuckling about your absolute certainty of being able to dispatch with one shot from an air pistol every time Mr Tea Pot. the squirrels in your part of the world must be much quieter than down here; either that or you are talking out of your hat I'm glad a few of you enjoyed the films; I'll try and do a few more at some stage. Deker 3,478
It's in a cage it's not going far is it With all due respect that comment suggests you have not tried to shoot many lose squirrels in a live trap! Combs have to be trap specific and are not always that helpful either! Edited December 10, 2014 by Deker Quote Link to post
myersbg 1,385
Mat, Wildlife trusts say the same, sack and stick method only, and you have to sighn a contract saying so or you dont get the work, forestry commission say no firearms under any conditions and you have to attend one of their trapping courses. Trapping combs do help with dispatch when using a air gun, and i do know some lads that are using kanias instead of sacks or guns as a dispatch method, not that i would want to carry one round 30 or 40 traps twice a day. 1 Quote Link to post
Mr Wasp 187
Why don't you shoot it with air rifle/pistol more humane and quicker then bashing it on the head twice How would you kill a netted rabbit? Dont tell me you would shoot it with an air rifle Quote Link to post
