Beddy's Yapping ?

My mate and me got two first cross grey/beddys from heart break fell kennels nearly twenty year ago, they were small [ 22in, 23in ] and not the quickest, but due to there great nose work they often put up game that they were never going to catch in a million years and never once did they open up. The one at 23in, my mates dog lined a whippet and all the pups we seen working from that litter were mute, we later found out the whippet they used screamed like a banshee on everything. The biggest dog from that litter went on to line a greyhound and a grey/bull and all the pups from those litters that wee seen run never made peep and I know that some of those pups went to the young team in Kilmarnock and were run at an early age. Some say it depends what you put them to but in my experience you use a very good mute digging beddy to start of your line Me and three or four guy on this site have just got pups from a line of grey/beddys going back 35 plus years, I think there roughly 3/8thbeddy 5/8thgrey I know the first cross dog that lined the 3/4grey 1/4beddy bitch, his sire is a beddy from a long line of digging dogs so am sure the guys will keep everybody up to date with any feed back about any yapping, and the question whether they do teeth or not

Anyone using the beddy x got any pics of the beddys used for breeding? Don't see many about other than the kc type..my wifes grandad worked a couple of beddy whippet out of digging dogs. This was 30-40 years ago..he's passed away now so can't ask him but im sure he said the beddys were bred in the north east?..atb sesku

Genuine working type Bedlingtons are far smaller than their KC cousins,at times,thus the lads seeking a Beddy to put over their Whippet etc.,use the larger types to gain the height needed,plus lads with genuine workers are often reluctant to use an earth dog for small lurcher production,there are a few lads with the bigger Bedlingtons,there are some big-uns,that are honest about their terriers working lifestyle and use them in lurcher production,my tallest Beddy is less than 15",many types,KC or hybrid are 19" plus,a 19" plus mutt would seem a more logical choice,id go with a smaller option over something bigger than the average whippet,to counterbalance it as much as is possible,Bedlington/Greyhounds or even a Whippet/Grey-Bedlington type adds a little height and resolve that the smaller ones SOMETIMES lack.

thanks for the reply morton..I was thinking the same myself...surely the "earth dog" beddy (smaller type) be a safer bet to produce a better pup in the same way a working collie v any old "pet collie" when breeding first x?

Over the years i have always been happy with my first crosses and 3/4s, the bedlingtons used in the breeding were all Rabbiting dogs, as Morton says most of the digging bedlingtons are of a small type.
