Beddy's Yapping ?

Recommended Posts

Ive discussed this before with a few lads and some have said its the fact that whippets have terrier blood already....then you add bedlington terrier which makes them more likely to 'open up'. This is mainly because they assume that all terriers yap all the time. The bedlington earthdog is/was a hard type which would rather mix it with em rather than bay....so that counts that out.....or does it? How many beddy xs are bred out of earthdogs? Virtually none id say.

I'll never understand the need to show a young dog an older lurcher working rabbit on lamp.. foxes pre ban yeah but if the pup not up to rabbit job wait a couple month till its ready...I wouldn't expe

always found it odd as digging beddys often worked mute

I dont think its all about frustration yips come from excitement too. Id rather have a dog that gets revved up and wants to knock over whats infront of it over a "brainy" type that picks its own runs

Everyone seems to be overlooking the gh blood how many times you been to a gh track and seen them run and a few yap like f**k ??

Think it's the same with most keen dogs gaf, when they see something and they aint slipped on it, and some greys aint exactly quiet in the traps either

Years ago when i raced whippets i had a little bitch, that was a dual purpose dog racing sundays working the rest of the time, now that dog howled like a banshee when in the traps, but ran silent when coursing, in my mind the howling was a result of anticipation the dog knew what was coming and couldnt wait for the trap to open. So i would say that tarring the breed as yappers is wrong, a lot of cases were probably entered too soon, also the beddy whippet i owned never once opened up as said beddys were always regarded as working mute.

That makes a lot of sense

Would yapping as a pup have any affect on opening up later in life or is that just a pup thing ?

Im new to running dogs thats all so trying to gather advice

Matt

My pup yapped a few times when chasing a rabbit and also when chasing another dog up to about 7 months old.

Most of the lads on here said she would still be yapping as an adult. I said she wouldn't.

She is silent now.

It's hard to say mate. I would probably have kept her as a Moocher and a pet. She's no trouble. Couldn't of Lamped a yapper though. Would drive me mad. I would of had to get a second lurcher for lamping.

Yapping, surely the least of the clichés you need to worry about. It will probably die of hypothermia due to it's linty coat whilst ignoring your commands as it follows it's nose over the horizon on a scent, best ask Northernlite. Get yourself a good Colliexgreyhound instead.

Remember, yapping is all about frustration. Entering them young can cause them to be dishearted and therefor yapp, make sure the dog seems confident, give it easy runs like squatters (if possible)

I had a kelpie x few years back and it lacked in speed however had a great nose. Everytime it flushed and gave chace it would open up and sing

Atb and good luck with your pup
