Just out of intrest .what size groups are you lot getting at 100yds ???

Depends how many cups of strong coffee I've had! 3/4" on average, 1/2" on a good day. 4" in the wind !!!

norm for any hmr i have owned is 1" but i'm a cleaner,guys who don't clean after every outing seem to claim better.

Hi Mike, I've since sold the HMR but found keeping the barrel dirty improved the groups

i have been knocking around these forums for a while now and there is definately something in not cleaning them.not great for the barrel mind you might only get 15'000 rounds instead of 20'000 lol

Bought a Tikka T3 Varmint .223 with the HMR proceeds. Been shooting it over the weekend with my new Vortex Viper scope:

nice imo tikka are the best (for the money group) factory rifle ,you gone for a 1 in 8 ? mine used to love the 75 amax.good to see someone showing the missed shots for a change.

Best I have done, I bottled out of the 5th shot when I saw these!

 

Unfortunately its not like that everyday, but I would still expect to quite comfortably stay inside and inch, even on a bad day!

You will always get a debate when you suggest that.

 

Clean barrels (as long as they are sound and true) will always shoot better than dirty barrels.

 

The problem is, in my opinion, society today expects instant results, many think a quick scrub and mop do the job, they don't, that will often make things worse and raise fouling, and leads to this all too common, "never clean it, I did and it took me 50 shots to get it shooting again". If you clean, be prepared to devote time to it and do it properly, how many clean this well, with a scrub between each?..........

You may well be best to never clean rather than do half a job, but if you do it right the barrel will last, it will not change zero and it will be more accurate.

 

Ask any target shooter if he cleans or just leaves the barrel to get filthy!

I like your Tikka Elliott. I've been considering one of these lately myself, only in 22-250. More or less made up my mind for an X Bolt now though. Hopefully the toss of the coin works out for me!
