foresterj 1,096
As an aside I have it from a reliable source that the "Land Rover of Lurchers", descriptive alliteration that it is, is actually paraphrased from a Rabbitting video called Coneycatcher3, used at that time to describe ACDxGHD. Hope this wreckless quotation use has not breached copyright of the film makers. . . 1 Quote Link to post
weasle 1,119
Dont think any one really cares who runs what tbh. Lads with collie x can be as quick only collie xs can hunt, ferret, run without bouncing of fences ect ect. I asked the wise old lad why he thought the lads he spoke of with the curs just go quite instead of just admitting dog started to get picky or what ever. He reckons they've built there selves a pedestal so high they can no longer get down. But he also says you cannot make the dishonest- honest ,man nor beast. Good job he aint got a computer dont think he would be very popular on here 2 Quote Link to post

I've had 59 plate Peugeot 308 estate and 62 plate Astra estate. Company cars. Then left and brought my own 52 plate focus estate. Just been shopping around for a couple of months, looked at everything, hatchbacks, estates 4x4s. Must of test drove 10 different cars. Ended up getting a 58 plate vectra sri estate. Love it. Best car of the lot. Massive inside, loads of toys, can't believe the power for a big diesel car. Picks it's feet up really well (150 bhp) and does 45mpg around town. 60mpg on a steady run I bet? Sorry for going off topic. Nothing to do with collies. Lol. Quote Link to post

bunnys 1,228
Fuji, IMO...all those other dogs, with all those other traits, will do their owners bidding and run when required. love it or hate it, those collies in some cases don't and unless you are a understanding owner, that dog has overruled you and your decision. It can also be seen as quitting, jibbing, jacking and with words like those being used all to often, the collie gets the brunt of the flustration and can get hung out to dry! Me, i just wish folks would stop shouting from the rafters to new commers and youngsters about the cross as a beginners dog and the like because IMO they are, in the main, not that dog and its the collie fans who need to keep quiet and let folks find their own path to these dogs. i think this his a verygood post bosun and yas right no beginners dog atb bunnys Quote Link to post
bunnys 1,228
I think a lot of it's down to the fact that people just blindly take 'accepted wisdom' as fact and then it gets passed on from one generation of hunters to the next and before you know it everyone's an expert on every different cross. But the same thing happens in all walks of life, not just hunting. The older I get, the more I realise the importance of taking 'accepted wisdom' with a generous pinch of salt - in my experience lots of so-called 'facts' about dogs are nothing but sweeping generalisations that may or may not apply to any given individual. And so much comes down to the individual owner's training and handling ability, and what they want out of a dog. You only have to read any of the 'collie cross' threads on here to see that although plenty of people wouldn't touch them with a bargepole, there are also plenty of people who can't sing their praises highly enough. And what's a fault to one person could be an asset to another. Case in point - years ago a mate had a beddy cross that yipped while it was running quarry. Lots of people would hate that, but he loved it cos he hunted a lot of deer in woodland with the dog, so it meant he was able to tell where the dog was. Horses for courses and all that. and yas can bet evryone one in the near vicinity could also atb bunys. Quote Link to post
