Phil Lloyd 10,738
Were there no pups with his bloodline amongst fellow hunters? Or did you feel the line had to come through him to get the desired traits? No, he was the last.... Edited April 12, 2015 by Phil Lloyd 1 Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,327
Phil I done the same with that Patch dog,I always said "next year" then it was to late, there is no going back like you say so you must "strike while the iron is hot" so to speak..I regret never getting a pup out of my dog as he was a fair useful dog but alas I can only imagine what might have been now? How was that Jake bred Phil? I always liked your bitch Speckle she was a smart animal ? 1 Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
Hi Fuji,..yeah, back then, we thought we would live forever,... Edited April 13, 2015 by Phil Lloyd Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,327
Old Speckle,I always liked reading about her and to hear Jake was bred off her doesn't surprise me that he was a dog from the top drawer ? ..he looks heavier and stronger in bone than the type you keep now Phil or is it just the pic? Slightly off topic here but have you ever kept any other types Phil apart from the collie/cattle dog types? 1 Quote Link to post
border lad 1,047
Jake had that killer look in his eyes very focused, for me now, i still love to see a good dog work, I mean get his/her nose to the ground, and work the field or wood /bushes, and some thing you have control of, thats why i am toying with the thought of lining my bitch with that good collie x, the saluki for out and out coursing on big Land you will not beat, and if you are going for hard days running the Saluki is there, but at my age and the land i walk i need something a bit more biddable, so with a good collie x in the saluki mix I think it will be more suitable, I know it will be my last Pup to rear, thats for sure,,,, 5 Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
@ Border Lad,...a man after my own heart.... It always amazes me when veteran hunters start talking about cur dogs and other, old style jukels,..only to be told by serious young fellows,..how physicaly limited such animals are,.compared to some of the other, more obviously lethal types.... There is a small part of me, that feels like shouting out,.'We know that,.you silly feckers'.... I hate waste,...so, nowadays, being primarily a hunter of rabbits in dense woodland and amidst factory units,..etc, ..I do not need a top class hare courser, lamping specialist or deer puller,. it would be shameful and a criminal waste.... I would feel like a a posing charleton, kenneling a real deal, 'mean machine' and not using it. If I needed that style of animal,..I would try to own one.... Fuji,..yes, I have kept most types of lurcher,....enjoyed them all,..and been lucky in that they all caught me something... Salukis, Beddys and Deerhounds,.loved em all....but,..I loves me Collie curs more.. Edited April 13, 2015 by Phil Lloyd 6 Quote Link to post
