Remington Premier Magnum Rimfire

They should be the same but when a comparison is done on accuracy how come the Hornaday vmax comes out the best

Whos comparison?

When I first got a HMR I went through all the ammo brands I could find and personally I to found Hornady to be the best.

10,000+++++ rounds later in the gun, I revisited my ammo box and decided it was time to use up all the half boxes of HMR I had left from those early days, the Remington, (which I concede I didn't rate first time round) as well as the Winchester, Federal, etc all shot the same (very well) in 17g V-Max type format, it was impossible to tell which came out of the barrel.

Go figure, no I don't know, but I understand Alliant Techsystems (CCI/Federal) makes pretty much all the HMR ammo brands these days other than Winchester!

I watched loads of gun tests on the Internet which were firing through new barrels Hornaday vmax returned the best results . When I purchased a new Hmr I tried different brands remington being one of them a certain brand with black tips which I can't remember the name of without looking in the ammo safe were appalling no grouping whatsoever. Hornaday vmax however are tackdrivers through it . perhaps when the barrels wear in they become better with other ammo and I will take the other brands out and give them a go next time I have a zero session. But it still doesn't explain why ammo coming out of the same factory supposedly the only difference is the tips would perform so different from the start

Here's one, well since different manufacturers use different qualities of brass can we assume that maybe a certain mix may have an alternate effect on this and one just being that little better for the job at hand.

I know every round is made in the same factory but is absolutely everything manufactured there including the brass?

Personally there isn't much in it tbh but I do agree with hornady giving the best result.

I'm not entirely sure what Alliant Techsystems specifically manufacture or sub out to third parties. I suspect it is possible some bullets/cases/primers/powders/etc., are farmed out and then assembled in house. But IF people are finding Hornady works best it would imply third party parts are then specifically assigned to one brand of HMR (ie bits from "x" third party manufacturer go exclusively to, for instance, Remington).

As I suggested, I too found Hornady best in my HMR day one, and still favour the Hornady, probably because of the Blue price/availability, but trials, now that my barrel is well run in, fail to show ANY difference in performance of all the 17g V-Max brands.

Placebo effect was mentioned earlier, I suspect there is more than a little to that, I would love to see some formal trials, rather than my mate/I saw it on U tube/everyone says/etc., because day one I would have said Hornady were best as well!!

As I have also said...I just don't know!
