Barky 24
How do I keep them on the footpath the amount of arguments I have with people is unreal, they just walk where they want. I've been out shooting some pigeons this evening and walkers just keep coming past I tell them to stick to the footpath but they just keep walking and say no! Quote Link to post

bird 9,872
How do I keep them on the footpath the amount of arguments I have with people is unreal, they just walk where they want. I've been out shooting some pigeons this evening and walkers just keep coming past I tell them to stick to the footpath but they just keep walking and say no! in one way its a pain in the arse for you, but got to be honest mate the amount of people who live in the countryside or work +shoot in the countryside , don't want (really) in other fecker there. the amount of times I get farmers or keepers wanting to know were I going with my dogs pisses me off. I had one bloke said to me ages ago don't let me see that dog of the lead again or it will get shot, I said its 100% safe with stock and biddable dog, he said I ve told you what will happen. I said well what will happen, is I will get sent down for 12 months, and you will go in the A.E for 3 months if my dog ever gets hurt , we left it at that . In your case your right, they should stick to the footpath you told them its dangerous with guns about, got no prob with that , but as above there a lot in countryside ive got no time for they think there a law to them selves . 1 Quote Link to post
midge28 6
had the same prob in the past , since putting signs out saying (shooting in progress please stick to the paths) we have found most people do stick to the paths now . you only need to make a few to cover area where you are shooting , printed laminated and stuck on a bit of plywood , store them under passenger seat so i have them everytime i go out , Quote Link to post
eastcoast 4,115
No easy fix Barky. Sign of the times. Just make sure you know the law, know you're in the right ( I'm sure you already do but they don't ), try and educate and reason with these ignorant people, and carry on. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
I agree with Bird, there are some complete tossers who think they can speak to people however they want, and it is not on, on the other side of the coin, there are some walkers, that deliberately go out of their way to cause friction, but remember YOU are the one with a gun in your hand, so be very careful, it only takes one phone call accusing you of threats, and you are in the s*it, make sure, if any walker starts shouting the odds etc, that you take out your phone, and tell them you are recording everything, generally I find a pleasant, polite approach, does the trick, but be careful, there are a lot of anti shooting people who would love to drop you in it. 1 Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,763
Never had a problem if I'm honest. I occasionally find people who have strayed a long way from the nearest footpath and I just approach them in a friendly way and let them know that they have made a mistake. They're usually very apologetic and I explain it's nothing to worry about this time/easy mistake but it's worth being aware that the land is shot over regularly so it would potentially be dangerous for unaccounted people to be about. I think when folks see someone on a quad with a shotgun strapped to the front come up to them they are just relieved not to get a bollocking. Had a few run ins with wannabe antis but again nothing that wasn't easily dealt with. Quote Link to post
Matthew Phillips 36
I've had this problem on a shoot in the past. I've explained to people that with shotguns and rifles we need to be sure of where people are on the land. I always shoot away from public foot paths, and should they veer off the footpath i might be shooting in their direction unknowingly. It's also aggravated trespass for the to stop you doing what you're lawfully doing, so if they want to bitch about it just go down that route. I've turned people around and marched them back in the past, or warned them that i'll let my dog off the lead to interact with their dog, which can usually result in 1 of 2 things: either my dog hears the music of barry white or the music of rocky balboa! PeakOil 352
Few signs about pest control with a gun, few signs beware of the bull, few signs about field sprayed with chemicals, few signs about Tuberculosis or ebola, you get my drift. 1 Quote Link to post
