Gaz_1989 9,539
I have always liked the idea of a deerhound type but in a smaller package. For the rabbit game. Feet, coat, stamina, prey drive, natural hunting mindset, deep chest, long back. So I went for a lurcher with both parents having a good splash of deerhound blood. Sire 26" and Dam 23". My bitch made 24" which I think is a perfect size. I aren't saying she's the perfect rabbit dog. It's far too early to say how good she will be. But things are looking good and I am more than happy with her. Quote Link to post
blackmaggie 3,377
i think you had all the above in sp bloodline which seems to be very well proven maybe taking something out of him to something in his lineage or a more robust type like andys don or something like that put to sp atb whatever you decide because if anyone deserves a bit of luck its you after the bad run have had Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
I think it all depends on the land you hunt and what else you might hunt too , the land you hunt is a challenge for any dog and you break them , plenty of bone not too fast and able to take the knocks.Average height.and able to put up with you trying to kill them lol 4 Quote Link to post

Also if really rough then I'd be wanting something no smaller than about 23 - 24" or else it'll probably often find itself unsighted. 1 Quote Link to post

Chid 6,603
Collie bull grey x whippet grey was always my intention for breeding .. but i bought in a whippet x saluki lurcher, which im hoping makes a good rabbiter as i bought her in as a brood all being well to put my c/b/g over... think the saluki would add alot more into a lurcher than greyhound would .... 23-24" would be my ideal height , 2 Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
Chid...that's essentially what he already has ,and they do the job ,I'd probably look for a related dog lloydy, that caled looked some dog mate, plus you done the 100+ with him ,is there any if his brothers or sisters around ?maybe nice to double up on those genes , on a side note I've always thought about a oz cattle dog cross or stumpy tailed cattle dog cross 1 Quote Link to post
