Yokel Matt 918
And i'll bet they were both wearing fluro orange camo as well! Hand and buttock injury - he was lucky... It'll be a while before he's sat on his porch playing his banjo though. Quote Link to post
sussex 5,777
Lesson to be learnt ...don't scratch your arse while extracting deer ...As you say Phil only in the States....did you see how long there season is down there 3WEEKS !!! it must be so frustrating , they have all the kit in the world but only a few weeks to use it .No wonder they loose off every chance they get ... 1 Quote Link to post

Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Never get my head around that either .There is no management plan ,in those short weeks if it fits it dies .Is there a shortage over there of quarry or does the wildlife dep keep short seasons to minimise human disturbance to areas .must be good to bow hunt though . sussex 5,777
FD , don't think theres a shortage of game , more a glut of hunters , each area works out what the cull is to be , you have to buy a tag , this in a lot of places is a lottery , put in what tags you want & see what comes back .Whilst the rifle season might be 3 weeks , the bow hunters get a season , the hand gunners get a season its actually very regulated ..you wouldn't want to get caught with a deer with out a tag , first thing they do after shooting is put the tag on ..the penalties are severe for poaching .You see lots of trucks towing chillers about going from one state to the next as the seasons vary from state to state ... I have an American pal who comes over every couple of years stalking , he started of telling me how much hunting he does back home , by the time he went home he realised he did very little compared to us ..his season was three weeks , he was staggered we could stalk 52weeks ...and when it come to lamping he was speechless , in his state if you got caught with a rifle & a lamp in your truck you were proper in trouble ..rabbit wise he is limited to a bag size ..5 is it ! I took him out lamping bunnies , I think we shot about 40 in a couple of hours , he never wants to go home ... Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
Another irony is that you could probably buy hunting ammo by the pallet at any gunshop / supermarket you visit yet over here you're lucky to find 4 boxs of the same brand on the shelf at the same time. Quote Link to post

The small town he comes from has 3 gun shops , 2 taxidermists , & 2 general stores that sell ammo !... Quote Link to post
Philluk 181
And yet I went into gun shop today as I bought a new .243 and supplies are low, could only get 1 box of 655 last week and they blame usa market. If they have a short season what the hell they shooting? Each other I guess Quote Link to post

Forgot about the tag bit .We moan but we really are spoilt here compared to that I suppose .Do some states allow lamping though ,for coyotes etc .Are pest species regulated too Rich do you know .I know in Florida you can buy pigs by the day .Bought one when I was there few years back but had my wallet nicked at animal kingdom and never went back . FD , some states do allow spotlighting for varmits but not for critters , difference is apparently you can eat a critter but not a varmit ..coyote ,racoon etc ...are varmits ..every state has there own laws .It is all a bit tighter control over there , have as many guns as you want but for fcuk sake don't use em is the message .. 1 Quote Link to post
