Country Joe 1,411
Appears he wants us too dig into our pockets and buy the new single. found this on Wikipedia, interesting. During mid-November 2008, a local for-profit organisation, Diversity@Work, invited Geldof to Melbourne, to speak about Third World poverty and the failure of governments to combat the crisis. It was later revealed that he was paid A$100,000 for his speech, which included a luxury hotel room and first-class airfares.[50]

Brewman 1,192
Bono and Geldof sure could do a lot as collectively they are worth over £150 million. Hippocrits.......
pesky1972 5,352
Yeah it's for a good cause but at the same time self promoting If Bono came out and said I'm Personaly giving 100 mill of my personal fortune to African Charity's and Geldof the same re giving 20 mill of his Personal they yeah they deserve plaudits At the moment once again they shafting normal folk who are prob struggling themselfs to make themselfs look all saintly. It's a bit rich IMO ? I wouldn't mind betting that Bono has donated more money to charity than you'll have pass through your hands in your entire lifetime. Maybe he hasn't gone public with it? And he's doubtless put in more time and effort into changing peoples lives for the better than you have. The guy has an honorary knighthood for his charity work! Are you really qualified to have a go??? So what if he's worth millions. Bill Gates has given tens of billions to charity... but he's still worth tens of billions more. Has he not done his bit? Like them or loathe them Geldof et al are at least doing something to help those less fortunate, and in my experience the cynics taking cheap shots at them are generally doing & giving fcuk all!
day worker 296
Yes they are doing something! Self promoting and robbing the idiotic public! They could raise more between them and still be multi millionaires than the public ever could!
robin hood 109
If all the footballers, pop stars etc gave a 1000 each you wouldnt have people in shopping centres rattling a box, government donate millions whats my pound going to do,charity stays at home

F**king U2 fan are we, lol. There's a big difference between them and us, financially for starters. Bill gates is practically his own country and couldn't spend the interest, and the other two are businessmen. What have they achieved in Africa (bono and geldof)? As has been said if that's your bag give all your money to help stop people starving and live a humble existence or sell loads more records and drink champagne every night. Couldn't care less about U2, and don't have much of a clue about how effective any money raised would be. My point is that I can't understand why people feel the need to shoot others down for trying to raise a few quid for charity, especially when they haven't lifted a finger themselves? Or maybe that's the very reason...to somehow justify the fact they've contributed nothing. The Children in Need thread is full of the same cynical comments. If you don't want to help those less fortunate then that's up to you...but don't have a go at those who do.
pesky1972 5,352
How do u know what I have or have not done for certain charity's ? There's one thing il miss what iv gave much more that they ever will Bill Gates iv no qualms with He donates massively in comparison even to what he's worth Bono and Geldof don't Like has been said Let them give three quatres of their fortunes and they still very wealthy if they REALLY believe in what they saying. I've no idea what you give to charity so I've assumed it's nothing...or at least not enough in my book. The same as you've assumed with Bono & Geldof. Three quarters? Is there a sliding scale on what it means to be charitable now...where do you sit?

day worker 296
Ffs if Bono donated every penny he owns by the end of the week he'll have more money in the bank than I'll earn in a lifetime! To emotionally blackmail the public is wrong! If you feel passionately enough to donate you will without all the self promoting money grabbing c@nts preaching to us!
