bobcullen79 1,495
Hey all.. The old boy round the corner has just bought a shed load of trammel fishing nets off another old boy way up the coast who was packing in. Upon further inspection he has informed me that quite a lot of it is undersized mesh and said I can take as many bags of it as I wish, so I pulled a bit out and the pin is around 2.5/3 inch.. So Im wondering if I can rig it into stopppies as Ive noticed on the trammel I already own has a mesh pin of around the same size. Is it usual to use smaller mesh for rabbit trammels? Is it to stop the rabbits getting so tangled you cant get them out? Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
No problem. Go for it. But I would replace the diamond outers with square mesh outers. But that is just me. TC Quote Link to post
bobcullen79 1,495
Cool. Is it normally diamond outers on fishing nets then TC? I pulled a bit out of the bin bag and I thought they were square? Spose an experienced person cant tell from a saggy handful... Quote Link to post

perthshire keeper 1,239
hold the net so its the right way on...float line at the top and lead at the bottom id the outers sit like a diamond then...... and yeh most if not all fishing trammels are diamond mesh outers but they wont work very well for rabbits on account of the half diamond that sits on the bottom of the net and the fact that the net will have to sit at 4ft tall to get the outer mesh tight...thats if its a 2 1/2 mesh deep trammel thout if its a 3 inch ish mesh its likely a sole trammel and may have 18" outers instead of the 24" normally on trammels Quote Link to post
