Two months ago I would have said something completely different to what I am saying now. I contracted viral meningitis back then which has left me clinically depressed and on Citalopram tablets to try

When someone is depressed their motivation plummets   Its very difficult to deal with someone whos thoughts and feelings are horrid.   Those that are closest get the full wrath of this debilitatin

its a awfull thing to have got a mate going through a bad time at the moment i can only be there for him when he needs some one to talk to,but why do these doctors fill them with tablets that seem to

its tough for the people living with partners who have too believe me .

Too true. My missus suffers badly with depression, has done for years. Not nice for either partner.

Post natal depression for my missus.

Youngest is 6 years old now and she's still on the medication.

Had to make some big calls...

Bad bad times but you've got hang in there, be strong, be there for them... will come good in the end.

Dogs and getting you out can cure the darkest of souls..ciyldent live with it q mutt at my side..

funny you saying dogs can get you out of it,and make you happy, because I was talking to my wife tonight about dogs, as my son getting a little terrier type x from the pound next week. and I was saying hope it works out for him, the dog 4-5 years old he thinks as he was told by the people. as i was saying that having had lurchers for 30 years and in all that time I don't think ive ever really liked any of the lurchers ive had, because before I had lurchers I had bullmastiffs ,pits staffs, and Heinz 57/s, and seem get more pleasure from them as dog in general than any lurcher I ve had, maybe there never really been the type of dog for me, and looked at them as just a working type dog .But don't think its just that as I like labs that been used as gun dogs, and liked there temps a lot more than lurchers, maybe it time to move on from lurchers . but you right some dogs can cheer up and make your life happy, its getting the right breed or type that suits your personality the trick .lol

Lol I'm like that but never put it down to being depressed. I can be in a fine mood but I just prefer my own company and don't really like people. When I go out and have to mix with anyone outside my handful of mates i remind myself why I rarely bother. People bore me if honest.

When someone is depressed their motivation plummets

Its very difficult to deal with someone whos thoughts and feelings are horrid.

Those that are closest get the full wrath of this debilitating illness.

The partner friend etc has got to look after themselves and be very strong.

At the time you think theres no way through. This thought alone can do immense damage to some ones mental wellbeing. The problem is that every dark thought that enters the head of someone who is depressed is felt. When I say felt its like serious mental pain or trauma. loved ones are going to be on the end of that.

You've got to remember that the sufferer especially someone who has never experienced this before will be very scared because thy have never been in this state .This is were the anxiety can also kick in.

Pretty grim I know, but there is a way through it.

Keeping away from stressful situations is priority.

You have got to reverse the phsycology and say this will go one day even though that possibility seems light years away at the time you have to some how day by day start to slowly believe it.

Anything or thought that makes you feel even slightly better has to be taken in and made stronger over time

Its a life changing thing.

When you've come through it you feel like you've been changed somehow.

You feel stronger and happiness is a thing to strive for over everything else

Hope this goes some way to helping your mate

Theres a lot of taboo regarding depression.

Making more people aware of this very real illness is no bad thing as it is on the rise.

Modern living doesn't suit are species regardless of what the so called elite might have us believe

Something I didn't mention earlier

It becomes very hard to concentrate even on the simplest of tasks this can have the knock on effect of affecting ones self confidence.

In turn you have a feeling that your not in control anymore

Its a bit like trying to climb out of a pit.

You get so far then slip a little eventually you get yourself free .

Its like a loss of everything that makes you tick.

The main thing is it doesn't have to be permanent.Time support and following the right guidelines will eventually get him through

I have a benign tumour on my adrenal gland, which causes serious personality problems.Instead of operating, they would rather keep me on Citalopram and morphine 3 times a day for the last 3 years.

The adrenal gland controls all your hormones and blood pressure,so you can imagine the problems it causes.I must have killed a dozen people a thousand times in my head, its really no way to live at all!.

At least the tablets go some way to helping me keep on the straight and narrow!.
