Deker 3,478
A search of the web will produce many results, genuine are best, but some of the fakes are perfectly adequate depending on your overall use/requirement! Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
A search of the web will produce many results, genuine are best, but some of the fakes are perfectly adequate depending on your overall use/requirement! Apart from being illegal and inhumane of course The Fenn MkIV was approved for Grey Squirrel last time I looked, (has that changed?) so the Government/DEFRA don't consider it inhumane. As regards copies/fakes, I was trying to think, Fenn, Springer and Solway are approved I believe, They are all Fenn Traps by another name, there are of course some real fakes and the letter of the Law is clear on manufacturer. OldTrapCollector 377
I thought that you were referring to the 'fakes' out there - as in the cheapest Far Eastern imports masquerading as 'Fenn traps' Fenn traps, Solway traps and Springer traps are all stamped on the plate with their maker's name - anything that isn't stamped is most definitely not approved by the STAO Solway and Springer are most certainly not the same trap as the Fenn - manufacture differences give them very different characteristics in use as you will know Regarding whether DEFRA 'think they are humane' - watch this space on that ... J Darcy 5,871
Whilst the MK 4 is legal, it does not make it 'humane'. IMO they struggle to kill adult squirrels, even with perfect strikes. I have spent a hell of a long time studying the kill rates using film footage and i have to say that the Fenn 4 is innadequate for a quick, humane kill on a squirrel. The Solway Mk4 is better but neither are a patch on Mk6's. i would say it is only a matter of time before the 4's are taken off the STAO. there are other traps coming through soon that are much better....... JMHO... 1 Quote Link to post

EDDIE B 3,166
I've ordered some mk6 too. Is it right that i should leave them out or bury them for a few week before i set them? Well if your intending to dye/ paint them, then yes! Well thats what I do! Heard plenty on here though, that say they use them straight outa the box! Quote Link to post
Matt 160
Just pour a kettle full of boiling water over your new traps to remove the protective film of oil on them. The best place to 'weather' any new trap is the place you intend using it. Quote Link to post
