Tips For A Newbie

Hi Marcus and welcome! Be as quiet as you can when setting the nets, don't stomp all over the warren whilst smoking a fag and let the rabbits know your up there before even entering your ferret, there less likely to want to bolt if they know your up there. If you don't already have ferrets, then try and find someone in the summer who will be breeding from good working stock ferrets, if you can try and tag along this season with a local ferreter too you, to gain some good hands on experience. Good luck mate

I'd say if you've never been ferreting before, the first thing to do is get out ferreting with somebody else and see if you enjoy it. The last thing you want to do is spend a lot of time and money making and buying kit, then get out in the field only to discover you don't actually enjoy it. If you can't find anybody local to you, you'd be more than welcome to come out with me but I'm hardly on your doorstep.

Always remember there are no set rules when it comes to animals, you will be learning every dday for the rest of your life and will still encounter new things on a frequent basis 20 years down the line!
Always remember to use your locator (and turn the collar on before you put the ferret in the hole...i made that mistake just the other day :icon_redface: ) pay attention to how you set the nets, at first it can be tricky, in time it will come with ease. When you get permission, always have the farmers back, report lame animals, broken fencing etc. Always have a spare net on you, when a bunny bolts you need to cover that hole ASAP! sometimes youll get two or three coming out at once! There is so much advice to be given. Hopefully the other folks on here will give you some more
