some one like Darcy or Penny Taylor should get out and interview some of the real old time dog men. Not coursing just old school who worked every conceivable dog from terriers to lurchers bushing dog

they are still alive and kicking, just twice as quiet about it

You're right there Tjones. Another thing Fuji and I were discussing is that there's not many willing to put the miles in either. Those six or eight hour round trips sort the men out from the boys. It'

and another thing i truly believe in,walking out lamping is true lurcher work, theses chaps driving the fields, running game down with a boot release lever is a no no im my eyes

Something imo you wouldn't be able to acheive doing to succesfully up here in the North QBGrey as the fields don't allow for driving like in places like they do further down South?

Haven't seen a good lurcher book for a good while,Not into this formula of writing books by interviewing people.

Mouchers tale was a good read,A lad with a story to tell,Baring that find myself reading more by big game hunters, again lads that have storys to tell.

Untill i see a book like these i would rather stick the 20-30 quid in petrol tank and get out with my own dogs.

But it would be a book that hasn't been written the lads who club together to get a motor dont run rabbits will drive past loads in a night they dont even register they drive to cover the ground you couldnt walk the distance they do in a night but there only out for certain things and its like this for them poaching is poaching get hung for the sheep as the lamb and all that im not saying I agree with them or not

but theres alot more too it than you think its a more modern day poaching approach and who makes up the rules when it comes to breaking the law some of them lads are real characters and some of there tales will have you in stitches and open your eyes its not until you meet someone who does more till you realise how little you do

I was laid awake thinking this morning of how people in field sports always want to be the best and what they do is right always quick to judge others and look down on them its a funny thing really how a novice can be a expert in the course of a season and how your closest friends will betray you and double back because you have and they havent these self proclaimed poachers that ask keepers for permission and when they get it still carnt respect there game

As times gone on ive grown to realise theres not many decent folk in the dog game.

And those that really do deserve recognition all too easily get over looked like those couple of blokes stood around a lurcher ring saying to each other how can we make this more interesting what other things could we offer like the obedience comps and the field trials but so easily over looked its people like the warrener and phil loyd who made the videos that got many hundreds of younguns interested its them fellas I take my hat off too they did the lurcher fraternity a srevice and I think thats about all I have to say on the subject

I don't agree with driving fields without permission personally but agree with a lot of the rest.

Some people are happy enough with a dog at heel, nets in the pocket and ferret in its box, slung over the shoulder, others prefer a dog on slip awaiting its release etc.,etc.Driving the land can offer rich reward for little effort, ive done a little of everything in the quest for my Grail, driving the land had its moments,i found it to easy and unsporting, yet id not knock another who may have limitations on their time and need the quick fix and easier hunting option,or no option at all. Each to their own i suppose, unless its lamping hares or gate-netting them, barstewards.

When I lived on land with lots of hares I've both gate netted and lamped the occasional hare. I only took enough to eat and the occasional one to sell and I can't see anything wrong with either when done like that. If you like to see a rabbit purse netted then imagine the feeling in your gut when you hear the hare coming and it pops neatly into the meshes right in front of you, topline down and hopping all over.

From reading this thread times have changed over the yrs, theres not as much game about now as what there used to be and as for books ive only read a few from stories which i no is unture so that puts me off.when you tell the youngsters what you used to catch and see they just look at you as if you are stupid or lying.same as 1 of the stories in running dog adiction.

plenty of gear if your willing to look
