Lurchers...

Just sat reading through some of my lurcher literature these past few days and now we've had the hare coursing,deer coursing,interviews,diary type books etc is there any stone still uncovered when it comes to books when it comes to our fleet of foot four legged friends? ..

What I find amazing is how many jobs a lurcher can have given right place and right handler when thinking of all the aspects of lurcher work is a long list !!

One of my favourite books regarding all manner of country pursuits is one called "A Sporting Life" written and about a guy called Waddy Wadsdsworth .. his exploits both before and after the war..definitely worth a read if you can pick a copy up..

some one like Darcy or Penny Taylor should get out and interview some of the real old time dog men. Not coursing just old school who worked every conceivable dog from terriers to lurchers bushing dogs etc. There is a wealth of knowledge and old stories out there that as the years pass will disappear for ever,. just a thought

Funnily enough ,, I mentioned that to Darcy one night when we were out for a spin,,,,it's one I had always thought about doing,,interviewing modern poachers,,,

 

It was all I could do to distract him from trying to touch me,,,one mention of a good book idea,,and making a bit of coin,,,bought me enough time to get his sticky fingers off me.............

Aye..im definitely saving my coffers up for one of them tracking collars..unbelievable bit of kit but only the rich kids can afford em ain't that right JD haha..get yourself a camera attached to your dogs head next time JD I want to see what it sees lol

I'm starting to think I need the tracking kit Iv lost my lurchers a good few times now and took a long time to find them!!

I seen the kit in action just for the first time buddy this past week..where I seen it working and the distance too it had to be seen to be believed it really would.The accuracy was pin perfect..no you may not need such equipment 9/10 days but there's always that one time lol ;-)

Fuji could of done with it this week watched them hunting off into the sunset and if I didn't know the area and earths I would never of found them !! I think come in handy when checking a new area which you not exactly familiar with

You're right there Tjones. Another thing Fuji and I were discussing is that there's not many willing to put the miles in either. Those six or eight hour round trips sort the men out from the boys. It's a hard game and I've seen lots of lads jack, lots and lots. Talk is cheap and alot of lads are looking for an excuse to jack it in. One minute they're shouting from the rooftops, the next they've spewed it.....jackers always find an excuse to jack, real dog men always find an excuse to keep on keeping on....

Maybe a book dedicated to ferreting and netting dogs,,,weather it would sell as well as a coursing ,,,deer,,or foxing book I'm not sure....
