What is the best way of drying out a natural catty??? I've seen reference to microwave and oven drying but no details on either method what methods are pepole using and what are the pros and cons of each. And what sort of temperature and timings are we talking about????

I think it would only be safe to use the microwave in short blasts of a few seconds at a time and I don't know what effect it would have on the structure, might weaken it. Not something iv'e tried though. I would like to know what methods are used too. Atb

One way of drying small pieces of wood in the microwave is to place the catapult in the microwave wrapped in kitchen towel, set the microwave to defrost and blitz for a minute. Take the wood out of the microwave and leave for at least half an hour to cool down. Then repeat the process until the wood is dry.

 

The best way to tell if the wood is dry is to weigh the wood on a digital kitchen scales that measures in grams. Weigh the wood after every blitz in the microwave, then when the reading you have is the same as the previous one then the wood is dry.

i just put my catty in the microwave for 40 seconds on full power leave 10 mins inbetween each time and keep doing it till the wood stops steaming some time the wood cracks as it dry to quickly if you find it is cracking just put it in for 30 second each time

Personally id buy one in from ych and leave the naturals to dry out..er..Naturally.. :laugh:
