A good start would be to have a well handled well socialised ferret around dogs, ferrets need to gain the trust of your dogs so they are at ease around them.I always have at least two such ferrets as i

I used to have terriers for ferreting and never lost a ferret but they were educated as pups which is the important bit. This chap was 110% with ferrets and really new the ferreting game what I would

Mine used to be in a hutch in the shed with the dogs lose but the dogs had known them since pups so I had no worry. What works well at home now if the ferrets are in the back yard and the dogs the house so every time they go out for a piddle they see the ferrets so get used to them. I only have a cocker and lurcher pup now a days but it made getting the pup used to them easy. He did used to try get a bit playful to start but just ignores them now

My terrier would kill mink and he had a wild polecat once but he was perfect with the ferrets. I guess it all depends on the dog maybe some terriers can be a bit trigger happy lol

Ive an old retired Beddy bitch and a red Fell that hunted mink for over 14 seasons between them, both these terriers could be trusted 100% around the ferrets when bunny bashing, often worked around each other in the same holes.

Any tips Morton for getting them terriers used to ferrets?

Familiarity, not forgetting that an equal part of the training is getting the ferrets used to the dogs,my terriers are in the vicinity of the ferrets from pups and soon ignore them, then its a case of letting them come together and keeping control, over many many lessons. Then its awaiting the accidents that happen when a terrier thats worked itself into a working frenzy,as they have an habit of doing, forgets its education and mullers a ferret,as will happen, thats why all my terriers are broken to ferrets, but i only trust 2 of them.
