Foxtrot 24
After laying the trail early yesterday morning, our first cover of the day produced a different kind of hunt.Scent was patchy from the start. Came across a few old lines which didnt really come to anything. Managed to get hounds back into cover and within a couple minutes we had managed to find a good line. Hounds had finally found the trail.....or so we thought!! Music was getting louder and louder and the pace was increasing. By now the forestry was rattling. All followers are now on cb saying how good the music is. Next message to come across.....'they're on deer!!!' What we weren't told at the time is that there had been 20 deer let go about 10 miles down the road, and this great almighty stag had found his home in the forestry we were in. This stag decides he ain't hanging around too long and decides to make a run for the open hill. Thankfully he did because we were blessed with seeing one of the rarest hunts I think I will ever see. 20 hounds in full cry across the open hill and climbing for the neighbouring forestry with this great almighty stag several hundred yards ahead stopping and listening to the hounds as we were watching on. He was making his way to the large forestry and there was no way of stopping the hounds. This one was heading back to his release ground!! It was a good 10 minute hike for me to get to top of the hill opposite to where we started and by now these hounds had hit some serious pace. I get onto the cb to get the followers round as I can't hear anything, in hope that they can get to the other end of the forestry to give me an update. Nothing! It was as if they had been lifted off the ground. We had received message from one of the neighbouring farms that they last heard them going full cry in the middle of the forestry heading down the valley. Followers who had made it even further on down were reporting that they could not see hounds or hear them. By now we were in a totally different hunting area and with no sign of these hounds. For the next 2 hours, we spent searching the countryside for the pack with no sign at all. Eventually we got message that they had been seen, about 4 miles from where we had started and crossed several different valleys doing so. At 7pm last night I had 6 hounds still out. 8am this morning I picked them up looking a little bit tired. Fair to say they will all sleep well for the next couple nights. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics, but wanted to share the experience. Great sight to see and one of those rare occassions. Fair to say the ol stag got a good chase but lives to tell the tale! He might think twice about moving back into our hunting country next time!! Quote Link to post

Foxtrot 24
Welsh & Welsh/English. Love the mixed blend, but have to say I am quite keen on the welsh/english cross. The english side in our pack goes back to fell/english cross, with the fell side being the more predominant. Produces a beautiful sound. 1 Quote Link to post
