DEERMAN 1,020
I've posted on similar topics before , you be hard pushed to beat a line tested bull x crossed with a line tested coursing dog ,remember options are like assholes everyone has one 2 Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
Generally what would you boys prefer when sourcing an "all rounder"... Parents doing different jobs ie a saluki type cross with a bull type. Or a lamp dog crossed with a day dog etc. Or parents which are already jacks of all trade? Lurcher x lurcher. i personally wanted a dog that could catch anything put on with a bit of fire in the belly for tougher prey so i put a bull cross bitch to a well bred coursing dog, but if both parents was such a cross and did what i wanted that would do it for me 1 Quote Link to post

roybo 2,873
Point me to the man with these pupstake your time and do bit of research but don'just go for a pup because it has these breeds, make sure the parents are well bred and tried and hope it throws to the pups then ask as many questions as you can. dogmad riley 1,344
Not an allrounder then lol A good saluki grey will do all quarry Quote Link to post
Moorside 642
In all honesty whats the chances of a top draw line bred bullx and well bred coursing type being mated up and there being ANY pups left over anyway. Unless you know someone in the know these really good matings are a closed shop to 99% of folk anyway. When you're starting out a lot of the time you just have to take a chance. 3 Quote Link to post

morton 5,368
Few lurchers, whatever the breeding, make for allrounders,id probably put that down to ownership over the dogs lack of ability. The effort and commitment needed to educate a mutt at multiple disciplines and tasks is beyond the need of most, thus the Holy Grail that some seek is rarely needed. If I wanted a mutt to take on the mantle of allrounder,if I had the resolve and commitment now to waste several years getting the mutt up to speck, then id be looking for certain elements, discounting others, that may aid my quest. The first thing id want in the mix would be Collie, brains is requisite, secondly the physicality and conformation needed to undertake the multiple tasks at hand,Collie again, thirdly the pace, power and more physicality to meet the said demands the mutt will need, thus Deerhoundy in the mix.A splash of Greyhound adds balance and a little bit of this or that comes in handy.Id never want Bull,Whippet or Terrier in the mix, they take far more away from an allrounders true ability than they add.I can count on one hand the dogs ive seen that could be classed as allrounders, yet what id class as an allrounder may be a duffer in another kennel.Id steer towards a Collie infused mongrel bred from parents that are comfortable at muti-tasking. 4 Quote Link to post
