The one 8,460
Ruggers; once you've bought the materials how many nets before it's good value (don't know if that makes sense) It depends how fast you are to pick it up and get the knots tight mate but dont buy expensive spun nylon etc to practice and you will save some money Quote Link to post
pie-eater 377
Has anyone ever worked out how much you save making your own nets? I make my own but Id say its only realy worth making your own if you get some satisfaction out of it. 2 Quote Link to post

bobcullen79 1,495
Ruggers; once you've bought the materials how many nets before it's good value (don't know if that makes sense) Two spools of twine, a 100 rings and a spool of drawcord will set you back around £40 if I remember. You should get at least 25 nets out of that, and that £40 is much less than you would pay for 25 decent 4ft nets. So to me, thats good value if your making, not selling, but then theres your time to factor. 3 Quote Link to post
Leeview 791
Has anyone ever worked out how much you save making your own nets? I make my own but Id say its only realy worth making your own if you get some satisfaction out of it. I make purse nets but very rarely use them much easier to use stop nets through the hedges. I make purse nets at shows when Im demonstrating netmaking, obviously its quicker and easier to complete a purse net than a stop net. My purse nets are 4'8"(23 rows 21/4"excluding rings)shaped to 18meshes in the centre, on the other hand my stop nets are at least 15yds for the shortest up to 50yds+(depending on capacity of spool) pointless just making 50yds when you have twine left on a spool imho. I certainly get a lot of satisfaction out of making the nets but saving money does nt come into it, its the fact when I did use purse nets I couldnt/cant get them the size I needed.YES i could use smaller nets and end up looking for a bigger net in the bag(cant ever recall looking for a small net to cover a hole)you can put a big net on a small hole But you cant put a small net on a big hole so I made them one size fits all The stop nets 14meshes plus selvedges I generally work on getting 18yds out of a 500gm spool hence 3spools =50yds+ which I run onto 50yds lines thus over 100% bagging Y.I.S Leeview 2 Quote Link to post
