marshman 7,758
Went to my two nephews have their first boxing gym show ( basically a bout with no winners ) . Anyway my younger nephew is 8 and only started at hes local club week last week hes only been to the gym twice , and the trainer got him a fight today with a lad that's obviously been going a lot longer and had far to much knowledge for my nephew. All my nephew knew to do was cover up hang on untill it had finished , he hasn't been going long enough to learn how to throw a one two let alone combinations or even have any sort of footwork . Now I don't want to seem the sort to complain because my nephew to a few slaps but am I wrong or do you think he was over matched ?

desertbred 5,490
its not a matter of getting the trainer in trouble ,its a matter of stopping an unfit kid picking up a serious injury through lack of guidance and conditioning. Honestly the trainer should know better
marshman 7,758
its not a matter of getting the trainer in trouble but a kid could end up seriously hurt through lack of fitness and lack of proper teaching how to fight correctly. I thought the same mate but were not squeallers , what would you suggest ?
desertbred 5,490
new club with a good reputation its hard enough to get kids interested in boxing instead of Gameboys and computers as some one suggested pm Gnasher he will know where to take him atb

The problem is theres so much of this white collar lark these days theres boxing gyms opening up all over the place meaning the good traditional gyms and clubs proven over time are being overlooked.....an aba coach must be nominated by an affiliated club to ensure kids are training within a safe environment......very few coaches of any worth would let an 8 year old kid take a smack on the chops within 2 or 3 months of first walking in a gym. You are right not to sell the club or the chap out thats not necessary just dont go back there......your in London somewhere right ?......if you cant get something sorted for the boy id be happy to drop you a few numbers of respected clubs/coaches etc
