I Need A Shotgun In My Life!

Recommended Posts

Ive a few shotguns, one being an old AYA Yeoman ... they're a reliable, nice handling sbs shotgun. You will need to use steel for the duck, well non lead more accurately, but steel is the more frequently used. Yeoman are okay with "standard steel" 70mm cartridges.

Whatever you choose, stick with it for a while. Switching between OU & SBS is okay after you have gained experience, but early days, it can mix you up a bit. I use OU, SBS and bolt action shotguns, and its fair to say, lm a master of none lol ... l've just never got into rifle "bullet" shooting, except when l was in the Army. Thpugh l.must say, these pcp's have got me hooked .. especially night vision ratting with one. More versatile than.my .410, though l'm going to get a moderator for it, one day!

If you value your hearing with any shotgun then get hearing protection!

Personally I'd highly recommend active protection as in the field you can then hear every little sound but still have full protection when the gun goes off.

I have a pair of these:

You can get a lot cheaper if you go passive.

However, if you go passive, you hear nothing. With active, you can hear as well as normal - better with the volume up, so you don't miss a thing whether that's a friend whispering or an animal cracking a twig or a wing beat, but come the discharge, the amp shuts off quicker than the sound can reach the speakers so you get full protection as with passive but without any of the draw backs.

Only possible drawback I can think of is battery failure, but as you'll have read, life is long. Claimed 300 hrs with the Deben. I've had mine 10 yrs (admittedly not done much shooting recently) and I've never changed the batteries. Ultimately, if the batteries fail, you're left with a passive defender so no worse off.
