BorseyHunts 1
I have only been involved in ferreting for a few seasons now, my Father started off ferreting as a kid and now himself and I along with a few furry friends are forming a great partnership. Today we decided to bring a Couple of new comers to the orchard to see if we could get them going as the jill was rarely in a barrow last season. As we where driving down the lane towards the entrance of the Orchard you could see the rabbits bouncing through the hedge as they heard the car coming, we could hardly believe are eyes to the amount we where seeing. However, these rabbits didn't seem to be living in the land we had permission for but everything was looking promising. As we weren't familiar with the land once we entered the orchard we decided to have a walk around and see what we could find, Runs and rabbit holes all around the outside of the orchard was the result but fortunately for some rabbits most of these barrows where running under a road or the apple factory car-park over the hedge but unfortunately for a few it wasn't there lucky day. First Barrow..not so great As it is only starting to approach the cold weather, the Growth and hedges where still far from died down but it seemed to good of a hole to miss, nets on and in went the ferrets. a few moments later the thumping in the barrow began and next you know a rabbit runs out of an unnetted hole behind me, rookie mistake i know but sure i'm still only learning.. In the end the barrow was a disaster. We decided to do a barrow a further down the hedge and to our relief it was a big improvement, a small 4 entrance barrow to the eye most would pass it by but not us! 2 minutes in the hole and our kit had bolted a rabbit maybe its just because i'm fairly new to hunting but the rush of adrenaline i get from a rabbit hitting the net is immense, but then again if you lose that excitement is their much point leaving the house at all? A few minutes had passed and still no sign of the Jill but plenty of thumping coming from the barrow it was time for the big veteran to do i spot of digging and for me to sit back and spectate sure enough when he had dug into the barrow there was the Jill with not one but two rabbits stuck in the pocket New land,Bad Start,3 Rabbits not bad for an hours ferreting! 1 Quote Link to post
GreyRake 108
Good effort. There's usually a sneaky bolt hole on most burrows! Quote Link to post
