moxy 617
Just staying right side of the law and asking questions to make sure of this Should you not have done that before you picked up a catty and headed out? You have the means to use the internet so do a search.
Matt 160
Just staying right side of the law and asking questions to make sure of this As I've already said, this isn't up for discussion; if you need legal advice ask a solicitor or do some research online. gnipper 6,426
I thought it was just illegal to use artificial lighting to shoot birds with? It's also illegal to 'take' certain birds at 'night'. Night is defined as one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise (Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981). I'd like to see the exact legislation for this because I've looked at the various wildlife acts and the general licence and can't find anything to support this, in England anyway. All I can find is that its illegal to use artificial light to take birds unless they are feral pigeons. In which case using moon light when roosting is perfectly legal. Looks like that is the case mate.
perthshire keeper 1,239
Do your own research if you don't believe me, but here is one quote for you: Under the Night Poaching Act 1828 it is an offence at night to unlawfully take or destroy any game or rabbits on any land, open or enclosed, this includes public roads, paths and verges. Night is one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise. It is an offence to enter or be on any land, with any gun, net engine (snare) or other instrument (lamp, slip lead) for the purpose of taking game. The use of a light to take game birds is an offence under section 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Anyone found committing night poaching may be arrested by the owner or occupier, their gamekeepers or servants or person assisting them, on the land or adjoining highway, road or path, and a police officer. Ignorance is no defence in law. Please remember that any posts relating to illegal activities will be removed with no explanation, and that posters will be warned using the forum warn system. as a question...what about shooting ducks and geese under a full moon? Ducks and geese aren't game. According to Wikipedia, "game is defined in law by the Game Act 1831. UK law defines game birds as including: pheasant, partridge, black grouse, red grouse, ptarmigan, coot and moorhen." I was somewhat surprised by the last two.

It doesn't matter if it's a rifle, shotgun or catapult? I suppose you only ever see pheasants when the mere minions are pushing them over you? Beleave it or not some people do have good relationships with landowners that are hard earned thru showing respect and doing the job that's asked of them as and when it's needed. This way friendships are built and trust is built. With this I've got several farms to shoot over with several woods with the odd release pen and plenty of feeders dotted about. Do you know what it costs me? F ALL! I shoot a good 200 birds a season this way, (with the shotgun, only just starting with the catty) but my farmers won't give a toss, I've earned the shooting rights, as they say, and they soon f**k the cash flashing pricks of when they come asking. Put your wallet away and do some leg work, you might realise it's far from bollocks to get something for nothing, my "good king Henry" sir lol
Matt 160
So someone else releases pheasants and you shoot them? Are you certain the farmers have the right to give you permission?
air gun ant 1,666
I release the pheasants and I'm very sure I can shoot them. Just as I can shoot shoot any other legal quarry with the appropriate tool.
