gnasher16 30,056
Bought a gaff over in Cyprus a few years ago,me being a sucker for a bit of scenery its in the middle of nowhere but had it tarted up with all the mod cons, there was a bit of land across the way that we,d started work on for family/friends etc........trouble is we,d only ever been there a handful of times and with the mrs breathing down my neck and pestering me to move out there for good a decision had to be made......so with a bit of a health scare recently and orders from the doc to slow down we had a few weeks out there to talk it all over and a decision was made......sell up and buy a little gaff here for visits, and take the plunge and move out there no messing about.......... Then gets back home at the weekend in a positive frame of mind and bang my daughter hits me with " your going to be a grandad " !!!..................not only that West Ham 4th in the league ....a 95/1 bet comes in saturday......lovely crisp autumn weather ............now how can a man walk away from all that its almost like a message from above.........so back to sitting scratching our cannisters again its a funny ol world anyone else believe life is mapped out for us before we get here ?....thats how im starting to think.

The Seeker 3,048
Congrats on the great news (grandchild not the hammers ) Can't you do both? My ultimate goal is to retire and buy a place in Italy and downsize here. I would spend 6-7 months at my home in Italy and the rest back in England. I don't think I would move abroad 100% and sell up here so this seems to me the best solution. Lets face it even for important birthdays etc your only a few hours flight away it's not like New Zeland or Canada etc. Go on, do it you know you want to

gnasher16 30,056
Thankyou chaps its a real puzzler this, certainly wasnt expecting it as my girl has always been the career type......Seeker i get what your saying that was the original plan, however based on the experiences of a mate of mine i think its got to be an all or nothing type thing......he bought a place close to where we are but because he still had a nice place here just kept hopping backwards and forwards and never really committed to either,he never got friendly with the locals and said even living there still just felt like a holiday......he eventually went for it and sold his place here and bought a bar in Cyprus and is happy as a sandboy now...we,ll be neighbors if i ever get my arse in gear ! ......it really is a nice place pretty much a dream home for a dumb city boy like me its at the very start of the Troodos mountains just outside Paphos so you have the sea in front and mountains behind......the little bit across the way should be finished around spring......when im there i love it but just cant help these cravings i have for Upton Park .......and now my daughters really thrown a spanner in the works i feel sorry for my mrs as i was all geared up and decided a few days ago shes not my daughters mum so different priorities for her ......but anyway surely its every grandparents responsibility to make sure the kid follows the right team ! TUFFTY 1,476
You will be staying put mate simples. Cyprus will be a nice little family holiday a few times a year with the grandchild. And the grandchild will be in need of going to see the hammers at home every fortnight. Now what room you going to get done up for the nursery when the grandchild stays? This time next year you will be blowing raspberries at a little grandchild.
Mister Gain 1,764
Congratulations grandad... the beauty of Cyprus will pale compared to grandparenting. In fact you've started already by thinking about claret and blue jim-jams I only had 18 months of proper grandparenting until my son emigrated to Aussie, and the sense of loss hit me like a sledgehammer, I really bonded with my first grandaughter. I've just found out that I will be a grandad for the fourth time, and I know it's a mere 10,500 miles away, but a 3 week holiday isn't the same. I know what decision I would make if I were in your position. Give it a year or 18 months until you finally decide and I doubt it will even be a decision you have to mull over

socks 32,253
Congrats to your daughter and son in law mate ... The thing is he is not in a job where you know where they are going to be living ... He could get posted next week to Scotland Yorkshire Kenya Canada any where really so where you live is immaterial ... You have to live for yourself in this world not for your kids ... As sure as shit stinks you will decide not to move and they will get a posting to half way across the world .........
