Blackbriar 8,569
As well as Bonfire Night (Bonfire month in some areas !), they are popular additions to many parties, Christmas celebrations, and the festivals of Diwali and Chinese New Year. But,in these safety-obsessed times, is it reasonable allow the sale of £40 million worth of explosives to rank amateurs ? The last available figures show that there are around 1,000 injuries caused by fireworks annually. 10 people will be permanently blinded. 4 people have already been killed in firework accidents this year. There are already reports of fireworks being used as weapons against police. They terrify pets and have an enormous environmental and health impact - some fireworks contain barium and strontium, for instance. The retail sale of fireworks in already banned in 4 US states and in Ireland, since 2006. Australia is, this very day, considering a commercial ban. So, should the sale of fireworks be banned completely? Should the period that they are on sale be restricted maybe ? Should they only be available to professionals or from specialist shops? collie/grey 238
I don't see the need for fireworks to be banned completely but I do find it frightening that anyone can buy them. I think they should be banned for public sale, professionals only, I enjoy fireworks when I know I am safe. As a child I was chased by a rocket that was let off incorrectly, I was lucky enough to escape harm but it could have been serious!
alun1960 234
Organised displays only in my opinion! http://bit.ly/1stLP0K http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=enL7d7Lboqg
walshie 2,804
They should make it they can only be fired on certain occasions, not October-December inclusive.
paulus 26
unregulated large and potentially lethal fireworks are readily available on the black market, so would a ban on sales to the public actually work!! i think not. only an outright ban apart from licensed organised events would be the way forward imho
TOPPER 1,809
banned from public sale organised displays only and only certain times and under license

Truther 1,579
The only reason they're legal is the money they make from them, f**k the damage, nuisance, and injuries when its 40 million quid a year, common sense and decency goes out the window when money is involved, double f***ing standards again from the greedy powers that be. Bet your arse there's a fiddle/backhander on the import licence, wonder who grants them? Ban the f***ing lot.
