Jogging

To my mind I recon breed will have as much to do with it as anything, a whippet type will mature much earlier than a deerhound type. When I was a young whipper snapper I did various sports and cross countries without harm and the best athlete’s today start as youngsters which likely helps their development. Most puppy injuries are caused by charging about twisting and turning rather than controlled stamina stuff. I've a whippet type pup, it will start gentle running with me at 6 months, until then it will get gradually increasing exercise off and on lead that will depend on what it wants and can handle. I will expect it to be ready for a gentle introduction to the lamp at about 8 months so it will need to be reasonable fit and strong by then. Use common sense and introduce increasing exercise gradually. As much freedom to potter about and controlled exercise will help to reduce the manic charging about that one gets with a frustrated under exercised pup and so likely reduce injuries.

Eighteen month at earliest for me got to be fully grown m filled out otherwise yA risk damaging growth plates n soft young bones

Going by that analogy must mean you don't run your dogs on any game until they are 18 months then ? .....
Pups are out with older dogs daily local from the day they jabbed they gain a level of fitness just doing that twice a day as they growing at some point in that time they find quarry and start to learn to come to terms with catching it then when I feel they ready and the conditions are right they get introduced to what they mainly kept for

Sure there's a risk of damage but not as great as continuous pumping on the roads well that's mho

If the pups become over faced in first season I would simply stop running them on that particular quarry and try again in season two fully jogged and conditioned if they shit then we'll they ca t help that can they I doubt seriously anyone ever truly gets the best a dog has to offer it in one season considering dogs are puppies in their first season but it amazes me how so many are graded as rubbish before they fifteen month many before twelve months
