Not the first time ive heard that said about their regulars.

Must admit i turned up at one of the cathera meets, just me with the lurcher and the pointer, got interroated for 10 mins by one of them before I was accepted. Think they'd had recent trouble with the anti's, never seen an anti with working dogs though! LOL

I did get a lift back to the cottage we were staying in another time so cant complain really.

Coniston looking favourable at the mo as we're pretty much on their patch.

its a sad state when people cant trust a stranger out watching hounds, but you cant blame the followers ,it aint personal, but new faces do start alarm bells ringing ,some people try to find/cause trouble for hunts ,they don't mind telling the odd lie,or making out some law has been broken, people must be wary of all strangers sad but true, and plenty of antis keep a lurcher/terrier they probably think they have saved it from a life of misery having to chase rabbits  :thumbs:keep following the hounds boys atb.

The way to go is to get someone to vouch for you, otherwise sadly, you'll struggle. And hunts do check up on that. The Blencathra have had lots of shit over the years and are very careful with new faces, so you can't blame them.

I understand needing someone to vouch for you. I visit many packs and always phone in advance, have a referance and introduce myself and pay a cap, that wasnt my problem with the cathra.

When you have followed all day on a number of visits and at the end of the day 3o cars drive past you leaving you a long walk in the rain, many of the cars 4x4's with just one person in....or you say you follow a mounted pack and you get a rant about posh people and how fell packs shouldnt have owt to do with em......people just cant even be arsed giving you the time of day then would rather go somewhere else!

I have hunted from scotland to the south coast and never come across such miserable cnuts. Maybe I was unlucky and am being unfair and I have to say barry and gary along with one of the masters were welcoming. But the rest of em can stick it up their arse.

I can't argue with any of that Dido. Never had a problem with Barry and in fact a couple of years ago he did offer me a lift back to my car which was miles away. As it happened, the day had finished early and after driving miles to get there I decided to have a walk out on my own to make my day last that bit longer. On the way to lousing hounds, the Master jumped in with me and gave me the third degree...He was just checking me out! No need to be rude to folk though, manners cost nowt and if people have made an effort to support the hunt then they should welcomed with open arms, I am, wherever else I go in the lakes.

Well I'm off up to the lakes, first week of December, it's the old boy's 60th, lots of family going up and got a nice place booked. I'll have a day to two out, but not sure how I'll get someone to vouch for me being a one man band if you like! LOL!

Like you say, phone call for starters. Introduce yourself, hand in pocket etc. ...

One of the nicest chaps I've ever met, when out with the blencathera was a fella called Ian.

Old boy, think he was a regular with the pennine.

Gave me a lift, with dogs, from where the meet was cancelled (didn't want to spook the sheep on the frozen fellside) to a mile down the road. ...

He didn't know me from Adam....
