Big bald beautiful 1,231
the bedlington whippets ive seen were too small for hard rabbit work, ok for a quick mooch. Quote Link to post
JollyPoacher 3
Its not the size of the dog in the fight. But the size of the fight in the dog! My Beddy x Whippet will hold its own against most rabbiting dogs. Not tops for speed but tough little buggers - and not as Vet prone as some ive had. the height thing is a recurring theme - and i think that is her achillies heel - I think i will find a decent WhippetxGrey to put over her when then times comes. sighthound1811 6
me an my friends are running a mix of pure greyhounds straight cross grey/bedlington an 3/4 grey 1/4 bedlington...we'll ignore the pure hounds for now ,but the straight cross is absolute 100% on rabbits, foxes an has caught the occasional hare..hes takin to ferreting well(must be the beddy bit commin through)the 3/4 cross is the same as his sire but with a bit more leg an a bit more acceleration..hes still only a young dog an hasn't been hard tested but is catchin rabbits well...so this winter will see how hes goin to really shape up...there is pics of them in the other bedlington greyhound thread..(if you cant find them let me know an i'll put them back up)...i would also be interested to hear from anyone who has run 3/4 dogs an their experiences with them as the litter we bred was our first 3/4 so we're not sure fully what the dog will be capable of...(one of the litter who went to a different town has already nailed a few foxes on his own) Quote Link to post
jonathan 0
i love beddyx i got two reverse 3/4 bedlington greyhounds and there good at ferreting and they have had the fair share of foxes and things on the lamp going to breed my little bitch to a whippet geryhound so they will be goodreallly good because my little bitch finds it hard on big fields coz she not fast but makes up for it on turns and ace on rough ground because she can take knocks well. she is the same size as a beddy whippet would be but i little bit heavery framed Quote Link to post
gaz 284
In not knocking bedxwhipp here as they can make handy wee rabbit dogs but theres nothing that a bedxwhipp can do that a bedxgrey cant do but id ask you this, can your average bedxwhipp put in a hard nights graft on the lamp 3-4 nights a week ? and can it plough into his fox and finish it like a good fox dog should ? i know most well bred bedxgrey can as ive had a few and none were wanting in any deparment for their job,Proberly a fraction slower off the mark than the whippet cross (still well fast enough for a bolting bunny ) but they make up for this in their top gear and stamina and they are a very tough wee worker Personally myself ......id take a bedxgrey over the whipp cross any day of the week if it was bred from the right stuff mind Quote Link to post
jonathan 0
gaz i thought at the start you was just saying that all beddyx are crap a lot of lads with bull x dont like beddyx but there rabbiting dogs so i dont no why people say beddyx are crap and they will take foxes easy my two have had everythink but not deer that was before the ban. ye my dog had one hare and it most likly the only one she will get wish some people will understand that diffrent dogs are better at diffrent things e.g my dogs catch on the lamp but they miss a lot coz the need bet more speed but when it comes to ferreting there ace marking watching holes bushing and catching bolts and holding rabbits well they did untill they liked fight things that the only fault with my two now but it was my fault running them on foxes more then rabbits i couple of seasons ago coz there was no rabbits about Quote Link to post
Royston2 0
I have a beddy grey bitch that i have not long bred from i put a whippet grey on her pups are small but coming along very well the bitch has not pulled up on any quarry whilst running or come of any quarry she has caught ever at only 20" i can not fault her very game little bitch as most beddy crosses are....
