shropshirelad 0
OOpps OK sorry, shoot the idiot. On second thoughts... MY FAC includes a Moderator, but perhaps I've spent mucking about with cars and made assumptions. Cheers Quote Link to post
Guest stevew71
Hello Chaps, new here and seem to have the same reuirements as the OP, so I hope you don't mind me adding to the post. I have been shooting shotgun for years but have just had a FAC through. I will be shooting rabbits mainly again, but I'm really trying to guage whether or not I'd be better off with 1.7hmr or .22, specifically in terms of distances. I will shoot from an elevated positon (4th storey, a convenient tower at the top of the house) and have about 12 acres, around me. I'd estimate a max range of about 200 yards. My other consideration is noise, as we have horses stabled. I understand a 1.7 moderator would require a more specialist fitment? Finally any recommendations on models, and dealers in the Wiltshire area, much appreciated. I shall continue reading meanwhile! Cheers 200yds is .17HMR (or .17M2) territory rather than .22lr but you will never get rid of the sonic crack. Sound moderator will take the bang out leaving just a sharp crack that travels with the bullet. Rather than spook rabbits into bolting it seems to confuse them as they cannot work out where the moise came from and it is quite easy to nail 3 or 4 that are sat next to each other. The crack does however spook horses if they are not used to it. One option would be to apply for both .22lr and .17hmr and use the HMR at night or whenever else the horses are stabled and stalk with a moderated .22lr with subs at other times. Quote Link to post
shropshirelad 0
Thanks again, I visited my local gunshop today and was indeed advised again to go for .22 to begin with. Noise being the determining factor. So, in terms of hardware he had a S/H CZ made in Yugoslavia, so 10 years old or so? Woodwork seemed to have a nicer finish than the new one he showed me, but it was more expensive. (£400 inc a decent mod and 3-9x50 simmons scope) Anyone know much about these Yugo ones? He rated it highly, just not sure whether to go new or S/H. Might go and get it tomorrow. Ta Quote Link to post
