Cedric 132
Any tips on cutting through rabbit fur? I've been finding that when I try to run my knife along a rabbits belly to gut it my knife tip is clogging with fur and riding over the skin. The knife is pretty sharp. Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Try and cut the back between the shoulder blades and then insert fingers and pull both ends the skin will come off like jacket and trousers lol. Very easy once you've practiced. Its harder to explain than do 1 Quote Link to post
CharlieSlade 14
I usually do a little slice along the belly horizontally then stick the end of blade and push up, I did have problems with fur and stuff being stuck in the mechanism of my lock knife but since I changed to mora it's so sharp and easy Quote Link to post
The one 8,463
Hold the rabbit head up between your knees bending slightly and cut down wards if the knives sharp you will have no problem 1 Quote Link to post
dtw 42
I use a stanley type knife for gutting, easy to pierce skin and slice down. Quote Link to post
Matthew Phillips 36
Or do it redneck style and 'pop the guts' (does anyone actually do that?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glIst3sbbKs 1 Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Ive done it a few times and it made a mess. Guts went down into the legs. I obviously didn't have the knack. I also have tendinitis in my hands so would start and play up after a few Quote Link to post
ratbuster 807
it looks easy, but...... Do it myself the " standard " way e.g.open up the belly with a knife and get the intestines out, using my fingers Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Yeah have to admit I do it the standard way. Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
I skin them first now using the method on second post and then gut last Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
I have used pop gutting when I've been ferreting some places in summer (keeps the flies off the meat) usually just do it the normal way tho. Tryed showing the pop gutting to a lad once without thinking, we had been shooting the bolting bunnys with the shotguns lol NOT PRETTY ;( Ferrets didn't mind it tho lol Quote Link to post
mat the bear 7
I pop the guts there is a bit of a knack to it. When you get it to when it's about to pop you need to push it hard and fast Quote Link to post
