Tiercel 6,986
What are donkeys TC? Self draining scuppers we call them donkey c0cks. as all dory's have sealed decks once you have water in the boat it can be hard to get out but with the donkey's you just drop them when on the plane and they drain the deck. Great for washing the boat down a few buckets of water and it all drains out the back. TC Edited October 30, 2014 by tiercel 1 Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
ahh i understand now, good idea.i have a bilge pump fitted but like look in to them also. Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,089
Would a automatic bilge pump do the same there's one of them on the boat Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
an automatic bilge should be live all the time, and works of a float system so you should never have any real amount of water in the bilge. but should that fail its always good to gave a back up like a manual bilge pump or donkeys i suppose lol 1 Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
If you set the donkeys at the right hight on the stern you can leave them down when the boat is on the moorings, so any rain water that enters the boat will drain off. Saving you having to go down and bail out the boat in wet weather. Far better than relying on electrics in wet weather. As a bye it was only a couple of days ago I learned the correct name for them, they are called Rib drain socks / trunks. But also go under the names of donkey c0cks and elephants trunks. I'll get there one day lol in the mean time I've only gone and bought another bloody ship wreck should make a few quid on this tho, just needs a lot of man hours throwing at it, all the bits are there, it just needs lots of sanding, a decent paint job and everything putting back together.
