webster 90
my missis bought me a hw97kt on thursday so i thought i would head down the range to get it zeroed after i had done the geordie hunters tune up . got their about half ten and got set up happy to say no twang and dam this thing shoots well , anyway about an hour later a new member turns up with a beat up old hw37 he just got , after about 20 shots he looks at me and asks why he keeps missing , now I'm no marksman but told him about this place and gave him some pointers i have gained from here and after a while he was putting in some ok groups 5 ,22 pellets under a 2p at 27 yards and grinning like a madman , at this point 2 other new members turn up a dad and his son , both with very new looking pcps they set up and start plinking away , then start giggling between themselves turns out they were ripping the piss out of the hw35 ,then started having a go about sling guns being old hat and just shit . after about 30 mins the dad shooting a bsa r10 started the excuses ,his scope was off he canted the rifle on that shot he's running out of air glad to say my 97 and i were on form , after the young lad with the 35 had left i had a word and was told to GTF they were just having some fun , funny i told him it didn't mater how good his gun was he's a shit shot , the annoying thing is his son looks to be a good little shot but with his dad as a mentor he's boned . we all do the same hobby we all want to get better at shooting so why single out the young guy with the old hw35 and take the piss out of him and it , im glad i made a fuss about his gun, told him all about his gun and if it wasn't from his gun my 97 wouldn't have been made . please guys keep an eye out for the new guys in your clubs and no mater what they shoot help them , sorry if this looks like a bit of a read but this really pissed me off , 11 Quote Link to post
shep41 31
Good on you mate we can't all afford top of the range rifles but we can do the best in what we've got. Always help others it costs nothing and makes for you being a better person and not a knob. 1 Quote Link to post

bigmac 97kt 13,776
More or less happened to my grandson little hunter ,now most of you no that he has some nice rifles but this day he was using his 177 stroger with open sites and his other rifles were in the car and some teenagers were taking the mick out of his rifle ,you shood of seen there faces when he started hitting every thing with it and they could not , He then said grandad can you get the other rifles out for me ,his , ultra, his bsa lightning, my, pro sport, the 97k ,the raider. and the tx200, they all just stopped shooting and watched him shoot all of them they then started telling him to hit things picking the tiniest of targets but he just hit every thing now at the time little hunter was only 8yrs old and he put them to shame . it ended up where they were asking him for help and he was showing them where they were going wrong and even setting up there scopes for them . i just stood back and with a smile on my face one of the old lads had say,d to his mate watch this kid show them how to shoot he is a cracking shot . Now this could of knocked his confidence if he had just started shooting and that would of been that ,they even took him for a bacon sarny and a can of pop to thank him . i later had a word in there ear about what they had done and say,d and they say,d they were sorry and it would not happen again ,apart from that he has a lot of lads here at the range that think a lot of him and on the thl so best you just leave him be . Now he is good friends with them and go,s and sits with them every time he go,s and its funny they have never took the p*ss out of any one else. Of coarse its got nothing to do with his grandad being built like a brick sh*t house :whistling: atvbmac  5 Quote Link to post
risingfriend 1,042
Anchors in all walks of life seems to be the norm now days fairplay for taking the time out mate and as we all should encourage anyone getting into shooting I guarantee he will get more satiisfaction at the range using a springer then sitting there with a pcp good choice in the 97 also 4 Quote Link to post

What they seem to forget is we all have been there at some point in our shooting life and having an old second hand rifle is one hell of a lot better than having none . and i would not turn my nose up at any of the hw range fecked or not atvbmac  4 Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
Sometimes the old bangers are better! I would have a hw35 over an r-10 anyday.. and if some guy was taking piss out of my shitty old boinger i would let my shooting do the talking. They would soon be packing there gear away! Cant do with bullies theres no need for it.. i would have said something too. Well done mate 1 Quote Link to post
Cedric 132
It's not only on the ranges! There is a local air gun shop where the staff, unless you are wearing a bommer jacket covered in bling badges and a baseball cap with the peak bent into a wedge, treat you as though you are some sort of plinking dope and can not possibly understand air rifles. Mind you, it doesn't stop them selling a novice an SMK ("full power") plus a tin of "quality" Wasp pellets. 1 Quote Link to post
ratbuster 807
My mate always says: '' It's the caliber of the man, not that of the gun '' How true are these words regarding the twat who's having fun about the young man with the HW 35. In the 70's that was the thing to have, and still are very good air rifles with a bit of LTD 3 Quote Link to post
shergar 42
I had a hw 35 many years ago it was a bit rough so I sold it to buy a brand new bsa lightning. Won´t make that mistake again 1 Quote Link to post

acculead 32
you will allways get them mate... at the end of the day its the person behind the trigger that counts ,, clasic example was at a club once this newish guy turned up with some weird field target rifle with weights sticking out the front, back and all over the place ... he asked about my trusty tx200hc and when i told him what i paid for it he started chuckling and bragging that his scopes alone cost 3 times that and that his rifle was well over 10 times that price WITHOUT the scopes ..... soon wiped the smile off his face when i beat him in 5 out of 5 target shots ... the cocky tw@ haha 2 Quote Link to post
