stealthy1 3,964
Well last August I asked the Mrs what she wanted for her birthday, and as you lads know, you don't get much of an answer. All I get is, we've been together for 22 years, and if you don't know me by now, and there is another enigma So by a minor stroke of luck, a buddy was after a couple of kits, so I bought 3, see my plan coming along Well, it was hard to wrap, little f****r wouldn't let me sellotape it to the card to stop it rattling round in the box So in 2013 the Mrs became a ferret owner So all last season I kept pushing her to take out her new member to our family, but all she said was that it was too young, and frowned petulantly, I knew I was on the right track But coupled with a bit of a rough patch, as happens from time to time, and the near constant rain last season, the little albino didn't get a look in at a day out, as I chose a seasoned jill everytime due to not wanting to mess about training, and just wanted to get the important jobs done. But this all changed on Wednesday when the Mrs announced that her jill was old enough to join the rank of worker. So a trip was planned for the next day. We dropped lucky with the weather, but not the nettles Hot sun and a nice cool breeze, perfect. I took the team to the farm yard, there's a single Rape field next to the yard, and the rabbits were just starting to make the edge of the field look tatty, I knew there were only a few rabbits doing the damage, as I'd shot most of them in the Summer with the HW100KT. First up was an old tree stump which is overgrown with ivy, wild rose, brambles, a proper bitch to net up. So I decided not to Instead I opted to use an 18ft stop net and chase the rabbits into it. The first rabbit bolted past the Mrs, so I asked her to move back and nearer the fence, the next bolter ran to the Mrs, slammed on the brakes, and doubled back and smashed into the stop net, well, the Mrs wouldn't have been happier if she'd won a dinner date with Brad Pitt Her little baby had just made the grade. So now she's hooked, result. We had a wander round the rest of the yard bolting one here, another here, and ended the day with 5, one escaped, but I know were he is, so I'll trap him later. You can see in the first pic, even the carry box is fascinating to this first time out jill. My 3 year old sandy jill. My older jill showing the apprentice how to sort out some thing a lot bigger than your self. The new starter. And there ends my Mrs first day out with her own ferret. We were minus my lurcher due to slicing her ankle pad in half working a woodland on Monday. But she'll be back. Keep at them ya bunch of bunny collectors 7 Quote Link to post
