I bred a litter 13 years ago. There was 14 pups booked but the bitch , Pip, only had 7.

I was keeping 2 of them so I picked the one I liked the most and rang 5 lads and told them to come and pick a pup each and the one that was left would be my second pup.

The lads came and as they were looking at the pups one of them stood on one of the pups toes and it ran in behind a door and lay there crying.

Needless to say she wasn't picked by anyone and she ended up my second pup.

She's now 13, retired living in the house and gave me 8 seasons of hard, hard work. She had several digs over the 4 hour mark with the longest being 7 hours and there were times when I'd ask myself was I OVER working her but she just thrived on hard work.

IMO unless a pup is deformed (which should be culled) the smallest or quietest pup in a litter should get the same crack of the whip as the rest.

After all, it's the breeding that matters.
