DUCKWING 302
WELL LADS , A GOOD PAL HAS BEEN ENQUIRING ABOUT A WHEATON DOG FROM EIRE . THE LADS OVER THERE WE CONTACTED WE HAVE KNOWN FOR A LONG , LONG TIME , THESE LADS ARE SPORTSMEN THROUGH AND THROUGH AND IMO ARE GOOD DOG MEN ........... ALL SAID THE ONLY TROUBLE WITH WHEATONS ARE THEY ARE ...VERY ... PRONE TO SHEEP WORRYING , SAME SENARIO EACH TIME......... DOG RUNS QUARRY OUT OF SITE AND LOOSES SIGHT THEN TAKES HOLD OF ANYTHING IT CAN . NOW EACH OF THESE DOGS ARE TOTALLY STOCK PROOF WHEN IN SITE OF THEIR OWNER . YEARS AGO ME AND THE STALLION MET UP WITH A COUPLE OF OLD STAFFORD MEN WHO TOOK OLD STAFF LINES OVER TO EIRE FOR THE TESTS , THEIR CRACK WAS THAT WHEN THE WHEATON MEN SAW THE QUALITY OF THEIR DOGS , THE IRISHMEN PTS OVER 30 WHEATONS ! .................. STALLION WILL REMEMBER THE SAME STORY . I HAVE SEEN WHEATONS AT SPRINGVIEWS AND AT VARIOUS OTHERS OVER THE YEARS , SEEN A COUPLE OF OUTSTANDING RUNNING DOG CROSSES AND QUITE A GOOD LINE OF TERRIERS THAT ARE WHEATON / LAKIE BLEND .............. BUT ON THE WHOLE I WOULD PLUMP FOR A RUNNING DOG CROSS BULLDOG SOMEONE ONCE SAID THE APBT .... THE GREATEST DOG TO LOOK THROUGH A COLLAR !!!! TO WHICH ... I SAY AMEN ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Quote Link to post

I SAY AMEN ALL THE BEST DUCKWING <{POST_SNAPBACK}> have been working along side weatons for years and have not seen one or crossbreed attack sheep.that was owned by people that brought them up with sheep. sheep killing dogs are the fault of their owners. have seen weatons work cover after fox very well. they are a terrier that most will natualy travel up to game and draw if he is well bred. a weaton is no match for a good bull.i dowt ever was. but as a hunting dog the weaton is in its own class.that it can pass on. there is an old man beside me that bred and judged trails when it was legal to do. the old weatons competed against the old staffs at trials. this is the reason i am told is why the weaton is tougher than the kerry blue.as they started competing against their against their own breed only. i really think the weaton would long gone to the show people if another breed had been out matching it every time at its own game. just my own opinion Quote Link to post

J Darcy 5,871
i dont know much about the weaton, but the ones i have seen have been 100% around stock.... Quote Link to post
Kane 2
Some realy eye catching pics of wheaten lurchers in this thread,I suppose it all depends what you realy expect or need from a lurcher.I wouldnt dissagree that they are as game as any Bullx but judging by the pics they have no where near the size/strengh/power of a Bullx attributes that come in handy for dealing with more determined quarry spedied especialy in numbers. Guest Doug
I suppose it depends how you get your permission too. Most farmers I know wouldn't look twice at a wheaten type but would refuse permission at the sight of a bull type. Quote Link to post
runsatnite 7
cant beat abit of bully they are tried and tested !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dont know about dougs thought's about getting permission but i've had no probs and got about 5,000 acres in 12 months started with one farm then it just seems to get more if the farmers get talking ! plus dont have to have a bull type that looks like a mastiff get a light 3/8 5/8 or a 1/4 3/4 still enough bull !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
