armdog 196
Set of this morning with high hopes, the farm i was going to had a lot of rabbits, id tried to shoot it last season but due to terrain only ever got fleeting glimpses of bunnys and never got more than 1 or 2 but they were there , i knew it ! The spot i headed to was a steep climb, and with ferrets and nets on my back it knocked the pony out of me , i decided to walk round the rough grazing land, the dogs worked there socks of but i needed another couple of dogs up there and most were away with out the dogs even seeing them, after an hour i decided to try the ferrets in a nice little warren id seen 3 rabbits drop into, i started netting up, then realised Juno had wondered off, just as i started calling her she appeared with a bunny in her mouth, retrieved it live to hand GOOD GIRL , now i knew i wasnt going home empty handed ! time to enter the ferrets , well thats where the day took a down turn, the wind got up the rain came down and the ferrets again failed to go to ground ! ggrrrrrrr ! i tried to stay calm , tried them on every hole, even the 1 my border bitch had wedged her self in ( where the rabbits had gone in ) after half hour of frustration i picked up and moved on. Went on to another piece of land owned by the same farmer across the valley, will be a perfect spot to lamp, had a walk round saw a few rabbits and juno had 1 good run but just missed ! found a few mushrooms and as i wasnt laden down with rabbits i had a spare hand to pick some, found a few puff balls but were only the size of golf balls so left them for another day Although the ferrets are seeming to be a waste of time juno yet again saved the day, not a terrible day but not really worth the time its taken to type this up 1 Quote Link to post
Guest vin
keep at it mate... I was out wandering alone yesterday with the dogs and ferts.... its the sport of Kings my friend. I think you might need an older experienced ferret, preferably a hob to get you up and running. If I had a spare one I would let you have it.... But i'm pretty much in the same boat myself with a few of this years kits and only 1 old decent worker. When you say failed to go down the holes...do you mean they wouldn't go in ? or they went in and just didn't bolt the rabbits ? Quote Link to post

armdog 196
cheers vin , they just move around the top holes, going in then appearing again a few moments later at a different hole, i know they will get there but its just frustrating that i know the rabbits are there then they start fecking about darting in and out of the nets pulling them down and having a whale of a time ! but not what im wanting of them !
