GIBB0 50
now I aint saying everyone will see it this way and obviously there are parts of the uk alive with rabbits but there seems to be a massive decline around me (midlands). to cut a long story short I don't drive I have moved in with the missis and got speaking to a fella who does a lot of lurcher work all over the uk and he has been sound enough to let me come along whenever want and its really opened my eyes to how much game there is in certain parts of the uk. we were south bound last week seen over 50 deer and god knows how many feral pigs. and maybe at tops 10 rabbits. I have a little lurcher bitch who I only use for rabbits. but is the need for a so called specialised rabbit dog running out? I often find my little bitch spends more time on the slip while the bigger dogs are off it so to speak. I am finding the need for a rabbit dog running out fast. how many people are finding this?? 2 Quote Link to post

GIBB0 50
forest of dean you should no all about the feral pigs lol. its right if there wasn't a ban I wouldn't own a rabbit only dog because its getting harder and harder to have a good night on them. deer all over the place feral pigs taking over on about re introducing wolves into Scotland to control the deer yet we can only hunt rats and rabbits Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,812
Not so much 'need' but 'want'. There are enough rabbits to go at and a couple hours lamping rabbits is up there with the best of sport on this island. I don't see any reason to have a 1 trick pony though... 2 Quote Link to post
dawnraider09 75
so if the rabbit is in decline and pigs and deer are on the up could it be that the running dog is soon to be in danger,or do we carry on and take what comes with it .i myself couldnt face losing my dogs 1 Quote Link to post
GIBB0 50
I aint saying its the case everywhere dawnraider. but if the ban wasn't in place and deer became fair game again I would rather go out all night after them than lamping all night of 5 bunnies.jonnymuddler not only the ban but have you ever seen a little 21tth 15kg bitch hang of the hock of a fallow for a field getting kicked from pillar to post not a good look lol Edited October 19, 2014 by GIBB0 Quote Link to post
