armdog 196
well it arrived , my first day with no work or family commitments ,gales or torrential rain . First warren was in the farmers garden , well compost heap to be fair, still a lot of nettles and scrub but i cleared best i could and set my nets, the first time out for these ferrets ( podo and kodo) i opted for kodo first, there was 8 holes in total . This was also juno ( my 8 month pup) first foray with ferrets , she watched on in bemusement as i set the nets, kodo went in hesitantly she messed around a little but soon entered the rabbits lair , after about 5 minutes a rabbit hit the nets , excellent but then kodo was reluctant to re enter so i thought id give her a rest and try her sister, enter podo, always been a nervy thing but rocketed into the earth and proceded to mess around for 10 minutes ducking in and out and never actually going to ground grrrrrr, i boxed her up, stood and pondered for a while, both ferrets were agitated and i decided to call it a day for them, i then went down to the field where id intended to ferret next, its rough grazing ground with lots of thistles, its actually 2 fields with a collapsed stone wall running down the middle its a steep climb but lifting with bunnys, i let the dogs of and with in moments juno appeared with a rabbit in her mouth, , retrieved it live to hand, GOOD GIRL , we walked on along the bottom of the field both dogs working the thistles well i then climbed up to the top of the field , juno ran on a bit too far and i called her back , as she returned her next victim jumped up 5 yards from her, she turned on the steep incline a straight line run and struck picking it up at full run , and again retrieved straight and alive to my hand , GOOD GIRL , left the field with another 2 in the bag. Not the dream start id dreamt of for the ferrets , but juno is never failing to impress me , a short day but i thought better to quit on a possitive note , not the biggest bag but thats not what its about for me, i just love working my dogs 9 Quote Link to post

tote 856
Good write up Armdog, the pup's doing well. Wouldn't be unduly worried about the ferrets, some start as if they've always been doing it while others take longer and do mess about a bit. 1 Quote Link to post

krawnden 1,036
Great start, well done. I sympathise with the 'young dog and young ferrets' situation as that's the same boat I'm in at the moment, but you've just got to stick at it - the more exposure to rabbits they all get, the quicker it'll all come together. 2 Quote Link to post
