Sweeney 316
Bought my 1st decent car 2010 vw 2.0 tdi golf paid £10,400 for it. On finance as my mates company do the finace for this garage so got it at 4%. Anyhow I've had it 2 weeks and "ping" dpf light comes on I drove it home rang garage I bought from they said ring Monday this was a Saturday. Took it out next day "ping" "ping" 2 more lights come on (now 3) dpf, glow plug and engine management. So I rang VW they said most prob needs new dpf £1700 !!!!!! I told garage they took it off turnt lights off and said its fine there's nothing wrong with dpf just needed a forced regeneration. So I said okay give me 6 months written guarantee that any probs with the dpf you'll fix it. To which he accepted, went to pick it up tonight and he said he can't give me it !? But if I don't believe him take it to a VW garage. I had to leave before I lost my temper, next step is VW £110 to check it but he's not keen on sorting this issue at all and says its dpf isn't covered in 3 month warranty. WTF ?? I've had if 3 weeks today for Christ sake. Im sure there gonna say there's problems when I take it to VW
treecreeper 1,136
how many miles on it?
mattyg1086 52
You need to do long motorway journeys regularly to clean the dpf lots of round town miles ruin then as they clog up and don't get hot enough to burn off the cap they collect the long motorway journeys where the car is up to temperature and running hard is what cleans it

treecreeper 1,136
according to vw drive it at 2,000-2,500 rpm for a period of up to 15 minutes or until the light goes out. failing that a lad I know had same prob with a bmw after umpteen trips to garage finished up taking it off pressure washed it been fine since. RossM 8,119
Basically to do a regeneration you need to be doing continuous driving @ approx 60mph for around 12-15 miles, what it is is the car is putting more fuel through the system to burn of the carbon in the exhaust, the light coming on will most probably be telling you that conditions are correct and it is now in the process of a regeneration so continue driving. (Drive as said till light goes out) by switching off engine you are interrupting the regeneration so it will be dumping the fuel into the oil. So the degregation of the oil will be speeded up and could lead to no end of problems. (Have seen the tips of injectors melted) Long and short if it's mostly town driving you do, then a diesel motor ain't for you.
Gaz_1989 9,539
Get the dpf removed and a remap for £500. My mates just had his Leon fr done. The alternative was £1200-£1500 for new dpf at seat.
hunting mad 147
Had same problem with a Vauxhall zafira in the end I took out the dpf filter welded the box back up had the car put on a diagnostic and wiped the code which cost me £40 and never had a days trouble since this was 2 years ago
jacknife 2,005
Eventually they block up completely and the only fix is a new one or open it up drill out the filter and remap Had my van done remap was £250 + the labour of removing and refitting the dpf
neil82 1,080
dpf`s are more bullshaite foisted on every diesel driver without them knowing about it, take the barsterd off and drill or knock out the matrix and if the mil lamp comes on have it remapped to remove it from the ecu, when the mot is due they can`t fail it because it looks like its still there, and thrash the arse off it before the test to blow the crap out of the exhaust, most problems now are due to people buying diesels for economy and driving it to try and get 100 mpg, does not work, diesels need to be used hard often, biggest shit I get in work is motobility customer who drive at 50 mph in sixth gear and wonder why they get warning lamps every 2k miles

The guy who owns the garage is a complete c**t to say the least.

lksopener 105
I'm sure you have some come back on the garage in relation to goods not fit for purpose within consumer law but you need to speak to someone who knows what they are on about.
