nottzhunter08 898
hqd a good night last night with rew. i took along lass for some runs and the night started very wet and windy but they both eased off later. we lamped a few local spots that hold some rabbits and had some good sport and catches. lass ended on 14 which was a fantastic score for local as rabbits are far and few between most of the time. cheers 1 Quote Link to post
FERRETBOY 680
It was a great night. I cant remember it being windy just a lot of rain, some of the fields were water logged which tested my new boots that thankfully kept my feet dry. It was so nice to not be wearing my heavy muck boots. We missed a good night recently when we last went ferreting instead. Everyone I spoke to that did go out that night did very well considering it was heavy rain and they saw a lot more rabbits out. So with the continuous rain on this occasion I thought that maybe we could also do well. I was saying to nottzhunter we need to beat lasses local record or just go for a big bag if possible. I had work at 9am and wanted to be as quick as we could around our spots and be back for as early as possible. We left around half 11, the first field which normally only has a couple rabbits feeding on other nights, tonight had plenty. We still only managed a few runs because the field is only small but lass connected with one of these. The next few places had good numbers also. The rabbits were out feeding but it was not very dark and rabbits were off before we could get within range. This meant we had to even try some longer slips at them , some paid off but most were away before Lass could turn them. The second spot we lamped added another four to our tally but when we finished at this place it was just gone 1am. We moved on again and on the next lot of ground we had some very close calls. Lass had a good chance of putting more in the bag and she came very close about three times but they just beat her after a few turns. She did however catch 2 from here. The next spot was just over the road and is the same place we ferreted a few days ago. It always has a lot of rabbits but runs are hard to get, the cows disturbed the first few fields and then the fog ruined the rest. We walked a lot on this ground hoping the fog might shift . After an hour or so we headed towards the car and Lass picked up another two rabbits between patches of fog. We wasn't sure if to continue the night as it was getting close to half 3am. I was counting down the hours I had before work and we thought it was not going to be our night. So we began to make our way home but i pulled into another field , Lass caught another from here taking the total to 11. Eleven was good enough but not what I had in mind. I asked Nottzhunter if he wanted to go home or carry on, he just said "its up to you". So I thought feck it, I got two other spots we could try. I wasn't sure which one to go to. Which will produce more chances. Well the one I went with did us ok. First run was a long one and Lass picked it up on a far hedge. She then caught another. we saw a few more but they was away . They rain had stopped and the squelching ground alerted the rabbits. Then we went through another gate and onto another field and spots a squatter. We move around the rabbit and get hedge side. This rabbits sits tight and lass is slipped. The bunny makes a run for it but heads up hill and BANG lass connects for the final time. It was the cherry on the cake achieving the dogs PB, I gave bran a BIG FIST and we headed for home. I only had a two hour power nap before work but it was more than worth it and im eager to do it again. will add a video clip later. good hunting rew Edited October 17, 2014 by REW Quote Link to post
