meathumper 29
Ok, Ive been asked to go and shoot some rats on some allotments. I went down and was shown around yesterday. So i waited for dark took the r10 and nitesite and off i went. Got there at 1830 leaving at 2030, not one rat to be seen. Ive been told by 3 people they have a big problem and that its crawling with them. So i packed up and went elsewhere and shot some bunnies. Got a text this morning saying he has seen at least 10 rats today, so i guess there scared of the dark? Quote Link to post

treecreeper 1,136
If there is them numbers about in the day maybe they are spooking them out of the sheds. Find out what they are eating and where its stored, they won't be far away. Quote Link to post

RemyBolt 420
Can I ask what you did to take them out? Did you walk around? Did you lay in position? Did you open doors and look in? Did you open a door and post up on that position? Also, if you were outside, can I ask whether you checked the moon? Don't forget that rats have pretty good night vision. So if it's a full moon for you or me, it'll be like midday to them. So ratting while illuminated by a full moon will be a very uneventful thing. I learned that the hard (and embarrassing) way. Sat outside a chicken house (barn) in the moonlight, trying to shoot into the pitch black (night vision in play) where they were. I had managed to make myself into a shadow version of a giant sat at the door! In a TEAMING location, I saw and shot 3 rats. Hid myself the next time....bagged 11. Much better shooting. It's an easy mistake to make if you are unwittingly illuminated. I did it recently, lit up by the screen on my night vision...saw 1 rat who was hiding and watching me at the same time! Only realised later why I had failed so miserably. So how are you 'hunting' that area? Quote Link to post

meathumper 29
Remybolt, yes was a big moon, but was cloudy and the odd shower. I started sitting, sat for some time, nothing. took a walk about, using high fences and other large things like sheds, coops, caravans as cover, nothing. I was using a ns50 with filter, and was dressed in camo inc hat and gloves. Anyway, went for a look this aftermoon and shot six of the little buggers, they dont seem to phased by humans and are quite brave eating and drinking out of hen feeders. Quote Link to post

If they're out in the day and not afraid of people...have some fun. Quote Link to post
