Jethro Tull 4
I'm after a new jacket for beating and shooting in. It must be absolutely waterproof, and breathable. Lightweight would be helpful too. At present I have a Mad Dog camo jacket, and a tweed coat, but I want something different. I'm not too bothered about price - I know we have to pay for quality. Any suggestions? Quote Link to post

the scudd 82
the ridgeline is waterproof but about as breathable as a bin bag 1 Quote Link to post
stabba 10,745
the ridgeline is waterproof but about as breathable as a bin bag was considering a Ridgeline Monsoon Smock for bashing about in tbh. lamping/mooching. Not sure i will now though. Plus sizing seems a bind. Quote Link to post
Barry83 28
Try a nomad best jacket I have had if not your fancy shoffel pack away range people I know have them and swear by them Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
After years in the 'wilderness' of new fangled materials and words like 'wicking', I now think I've come out the other side, with the knowledge that most are simply gimmicky shite, not robust enough and fail within a season or two of daily graft in the field.... For a all-rounder that has past proven to me of its durability, I'm going back to Barbour.... Quote Link to post
samboy 304
I agree with Bosun 11. 1 Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
If price ain't an issue mate get a nomad, thing is you'll struggle to get a jacket that's breathable and 100% waterproof I'm going to try the harkilla pro hunter x next Quote Link to post
Gaj1612 99
I've got a ridgeline monsoon smock, it is mighty waterproof but it is in no way breathable I only wear mine when I have to other wise I've got a stormcloth jacket which is decent Quote Link to post
the scudd 82
you could do worse than look at swazi Quote Link to post
Jethro Tull 4
Thanks for all your advice. I've been having a look at the John Norris website, and I'm tempted by the Seeland Keeper's or Woodcock jackets. Has anyone got these, and how do you rate them? Incidentally, I used my Barbour Border jacket last Saturday (my first days' beating of the season), and it poured down! The jacket, although recently re-proofed, became stiff as a board, and it isn't all that waterproof...hence my quest for a more suitable garment. Quote Link to post
the apprentice 178
Just bought myself a fladen jacket, for out mooching about, not had the chance to try it yet, will update if it's any good, £50 out of go outdoors, atb whatever you get,Defo no good for ferreting in the brambles, lol Quote Link to post
DazAllison1 556
Ive got the seeland marsh and really rate it good all round jacket Quote Link to post
jessdale 416
You will have to make a compromise somewhere. No coat tough enough to last through a beating season, in heavy cover, is breathable enough to not make you sweat. The only waterproof and really breathable coats out there are Paramo. But they would be destroyed after the first drive. 3 Quote Link to post
