Sweeney 316
For some reason she's became really hard mouthed, breaking the ribs of nearly every rabbit. She used to be soft mouthed with them. Can't get me head round it. Quote Link to post
DogFox123 1,379
Is she is as fit as she once was? I've noticed the more tireder they get the harder mouthed they become. 1 Quote Link to post
Phil Win 79
Happens to a lot of lurchers over time. I have found some stay soft mouth for years then all of a sudden go hard mouth instantly. Some are hard mouthed from the start. I also think it really has nothing to do with some of them taking foxes pre-ban as some people say. Once they turn hard mouthed, they wont go back, just the way it is in my opinion. It also all depends what you prefer, however, if a dog is catching well and has a high catch rate ect, it would be a pity, in my opinion, to move it on just for that, as a lot do. ! Wales1234 5,510
I have heard some dogs do it after being introduced to foxes and can see why but my uncles old dog flash was soft mouth till the day he died and they dog killed some foxes in his day pre ban of course Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
Over keen or tired maybe? One of mine is live to hand til he's getting knackered then he starts killing them before retrieving. I think he does it to make them easier to carry. Another one will crunch rabbits for the first few runs of early season sessions then starts bringing them live to hand once she settles to it. Not the end of the world in my opinion unless you are selling all your catch. 1 Quote Link to post
Sweeney 316
No not selling and tbf it's mainly for ferret food, but I do have the occasional people asking me for bunnys to cook up. So I now have to get out ferreting to get them. Oh well 1 Quote Link to post

grompz 703
totally agree with all the lads comments on your bitch becoming hard mouthed, from my experience it can be the following, running tired, too many distance rabbits, running in wrong conditions and running unfit, also sorry to say it could be hereditary,if you breed two hard mouth dogs together some times pups can breed the same, hope this helps you out.
