Chicken_man 1,651
You have a pair of birds! And you want to establish a line! What is the best way? I'm looking for a simple explanation please. Thanks.
gamerooster 1,179
Make sure one of the birds has, or produces the traits that you want, and keep breeding back to it till all offspring breed true and produce the desired traits

gnasher16 30,273
Surely continually inbreeding is not going to hold up with performance bred birds though is it ?
gnasher16 30,273
My uncle bred pigeons his whole life and only started with 2 and never used an blood from outside, my cousin still has the line I believe Never bred a performance bird in my life i was just thinking in terms of dogs.......i guess its different with birds.....fascinating
mule123 112
joking apart u must bring in new blood into the line as no line is perfect and later on faults are just reproduce bigger then u use same way bred uncles aunties then u have your line to inbreed just u bring in new blood as needed

Chicken_man 1,651
Lads, From what I have learned so far, I believe you have to establish a number of families, in order to eventually outcross when needed! Who is willing to explain this one then? It's all interesting stuff. Atb
marshman 7,758
It's a hard question to answer in short on a forum such as this . There's books you can get that explain tried and tested methods by good men .
