The Worst Trap,..... Ever !!

Recommended Posts

We all know the merits of the Imbra / juby & fenn as there the modern day workhorse of the rabbit trapper....

Along with bodygrips they are pretty much all were allowed in our rabbit trapping armoury and it got me thinking about alternative traps, more importantly...., the epic failures !

So out of interest & to promote a little discussion within this section tell me,

What is the worst trap you've ever seen, owned or used......

Rodent Glue Traps. If someone can explain how these things were ever passed on welfare grounds i'd love to know.   http://www.gluetraps.co.uk/mouse-glue-trap-boards-1-c.asp

I keep coming across those green plastic Beagle 'Easy Set' traps.   One of my customers had three and while I was waiting for him to come home one afternoon I set about playing with them. They were

Yes, I noticed that they had a 'Master Mole Catcher' on board. Strange thing is that they never posted my review of the trap. Can't think why

There's one going through the approval process at the mo ( I believe) called the Koro, the way it's designed is flawed and will result in many foul catches....... Other traps that need taking off the list is the sawyer vermin . IMO. Aside from those i think the Fenn Mk4 is a terrible trap, too weak to be of use on squirrels IMO.

The DOC trap is a total waste of time, poorly thought out and of very limited use. It's a bit like having a falcon with clipped wings! it would be a great trap if more thought was given to the legal stipulation of the tunnel.

then there's the 'catch alive' mole trap.... :icon_eek:

I am finding it difficult to answer this question - is that because I love them all?

So many were tried and failed over the years and still do. Some were brutal, some were poorly made or designed, some were just plain impractical and developed with an engineering and not trapping mind

I think some of the contrivances made for moles in recent years would have to be up there with the most useless ones - mole eliminator trap, talpirid trap, Beagle etc

I ordered some chinese "mouse" traps off ebay a year or two back, just because they looked interesting, I never used them. I only got 2. Very inventive, but shocking to say the least. I`m sure the whole trap was made out of recycled material ( the trigger plate was made out of some sheet metal off an old oil drum, real sharp edges too.) It was sort of a round bear trap shape, made out of 4mm high ten. And its springs locked the jaws, similar to a BMI. Also only one of them out of the pair worked properly  Sorry no picture, I threw them out in the last shed clear out.

As others have already suggested, the Nooski and the Talpirid have got to be serious contenders, as is most of the scrap imported from the far east and sold to the unwitting.

Mole, Rat and Mouse traps, not being regulated like other spring traps are easily the worst in general; but I suspect some of the stuff that was tested by MAFF prior to the ban on gins was pretty awful.

The trigger plate looks like it was made from a drinks can first time I set it nearly lost a finger,to be fair it as a very strong spring and razor sharp teeth it was sold as a mouse trap

that thing looks smart as eggs! i would love a play with that bad boy
