norseman 424
Just a quick question, i think i might have picked up contact dermatitis from work but im not sure, any lads on here have it and if so whats the story with it? can you get cream for it? hands are starting to do my head in now, ive read up a bit about it and its common for metal workers to suffer from it apparently. i know i should've used barrier cream but its a bit late now

pesky1972 5,307
Not sure what your symtoms are, or whether you wear gloves, but I used to get a 'lumpy' (usually itchy but sometimes nippy) rash. I wore gloves or gauntlets a lot & usually only replaced them when they were holed or falling apart. Eventually sussed that the rash got worse the older the gloves got and so started changing them regularly and it pretty much went away. Seen some guys with shocking dermatitis... brass bands all cracked to fcuk with open sores constantly. Fcuk living & working with that!
lurcherman 887 13,176
Betnovate works wonders. Could also try few drops of oilatum in your bath
norseman 424
thanks gents, i will definitely try one of them over the counter creams and see how they pan out. symtoms are different from day to day, dry one day to small lumps, itchy and then cracking, and stings when i use certain soaps. only on some of my fingers but it seems to be spreading now, i left it too long to be honest. neil82 1,080
got it years ago machining aluminium, up to my arm pits in paraffin every day, cleared it with germoline cream (the old stuff in the tins), daft thing about that is that was paraffin based as well, when you get it cleared use this stuff http://www.astralcsl.com/gloves-in-a-bottle/ you`ll have to try and copy that bit and paste it, any one know why that link will not copy and paste directly, not been able to do it on several things, copies it OK but will not paste the non-solve hand cleaner they do is also good stuff, a lot of people I know who have skin problems love the stuff, not as aggressive as swarfega but still shifts grease and oil off your skin, and works a bit better with wet hands

A rash on a few fingers or just parts of your hands? I have had this for months now. Was really sore but now horrible dry flakey skin which cracks easy and makes it sore again. The chemist give me a steroid cream but I can't remember the name and told me to use moisturiser
